Why would you do a stacked cabinet with 8' ceilings? 1 door would give height to the space.

You need a minimum of 9’ ceilings for stacked cabinets to look proportional. As @lucky998877 said, 1 door will make the ceiling appear higher. Stacked cabinets will accentuate the lack of height.

You can’t do stacked cabinets with 8’ ceiling. It looks weird—squat cabinet on top of squat cabinet not a good look at all. Your ceiling will also appear lower with two rows of horizontal squat cabinets. It will also cut back significantly on useable cabinet storage space, and costs a boatload of money to look bad.

The photos you linked of “the look you are going for” is of a kitchen with 10’ ceilings.

If you are taking cabinets to meet your 8’ ceiling, I recommend 39” tall uppers and 3“ crown. The taller cabinets will give the illusion your ceiling is higher, and you’ll have good storage too. The upper cabinets that are next to the fridge can be glass-door cabinets if you want to store glassware and pretty china there.

But while you're looking, also look for photos of 8ft ceilings with tall cabinets that have glass on the upper third part. A similar look, maybe?

I have to agree with everyone else- stacked cabinets just don’t make sense with eight foot ceilings.

I agree that 39" doors with a 3" molding would make the ceiling appear higher. I certainly wouldn't put stacked cabinets all around a kitchen with an 8-foot ceiling. However, I LOVE the look of a cottage/farmhouse kitchen with 4-lite mullion doors, especially around the vent hood. I need a kitchen with character. Solid doors all around it a bit boring, IMO.

How about putting those mullion doors elsewhere in the kitchen, instead of around the top of the whole kitchen? Like on either side of the hood (on the 39" cabinets)?

Move and get taller ceilings. Stacked cabinets for 8’ ceilings make the kitchen look squat, dumpy, frumpy, lumpy. It makes the ceiling look shorter and everything in it over crowded and overpowering.

The look you want is for a kitchen that has much higher ceilings than you have. What you are proposing is not how you get a kitchen with “character”. It is how you get a kitchen looking like an expensive mistake. It’s like if I, at 5’3” tall, was absolutely convinced that I will look just like Heidi Klum if I wear the same dress as she does including the same length. I’d look terrible. I promise you will regret what you are proposing.

You can still incorporate mullion doors elsewhere though.

Agree with the above. Have you got a talented and experienced kitchen designer? That is what will help get you the kitchen you want.

Go in and say, "I would like a cottage/farmhouse kitchen. Here is my floorplan. My budget is $$$. I love the look of glass doors. I have a husband who loves to cook and three children under the age of four."

A good designer will have ideas you haven't even considered. She will lay out your options to get the look you want within your budget.

No to stacked cabinets.

Yes to tall doors.
