Oh my gosh I have never seen granite like that. It is so beautiful.

I am not a designer or an expert but it seems like the slate tile might compete with the granite a bit. It kind of matches.

The porcelain tile is definitely more neutral but I would think something in a dark or medium gray slate tile might work better?

How about a simple medium dark gray slate or porcelain to blend with the countertops but not compete with them?

From your site, the Cebu Silver might work. I really like the Montauk Black slate, but having a black floor of my own, I know it shows crumbs and things easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. Even tho there is alot of light in my kitchen, skylight, canned light and a big window - im afraid to go too dark on the floor bc of the dark countertop. I went back to the tile store - and looked at the Autumn Slate, and also Fibra Suede....... Starting to panic now bc I have no idea what to chose, ive looked at so much! My husband is no help - he likes my taste, but not good at making decisions......argh

Your granite is beautiful! But very dramatic, it should probably be the only show going on. I would choose very a very calm floor. I wouldn't choose anyuthing yellow, though, but something in a cooler color to complement the granite.

Thats what Im thinking Sally123. But i had this dream last night about doing a grey floor. A few of you suggested it - and I wasnt sure it would go well with the light maple cabinets.......Im going to look for pics on the internet and see if i can find one. Im thinking a light gray. oh this is so hard!!

I agree with Palimpset's suggestion wholeheartedly. You need a medium to darker grey floor. Something quiet, but with strength. I'd suggest porcelain for ease of upkeep over slate. (As well as a cheaper install.)

Honey maple is a light wood finish. Your floors can stand to be dark with it. Horizontal surfaces that are dark do not create a visual impression of darkness, they create a visual impression of spaciousness because they act to move the eye around the room. Vertical surfaces that are dark are much more difficult to deal with. They tend to stop the eye and grab the light, and need much more artificial light in order to look cozy and not dungeon like.

Thanks for the link to all those kitchens - some with green countertops. The 12th pic down, that was the floor i had originally picked out - and i thought it was too busy and dark.

I guess im a bit confused with the colors. I chose the light maple to keep the room light and also WARM - I originally wanted WHITE cabinets. The rest of my house is very southwest warm colors. So i wanted to go with warm kitchen colors. Then my husband found the granite and fell in love with it. While i think its warm too, its actually cool. So how do you mix the cool of the countertops - with the warm wood? I havent found many pics of gray floors with light wood cabinets..... Now i feel im getting away from that warm kitchen i was aiming at, bc of the countertops...... Im an artist, I understand hue and color......why is this stumping me? I think the cabinets are throwing me off. If they were white, of course the gray would go so well. Need to find more pics and im spending all my time on internet looking...... I really really love this kitchen of RICHs from a thread on garden web. My cabinets are a bit lighter than his, but he also has a green countertop....and i love his floors bc they are a mix of warm and cool colors. And another question - if i went with gray floors - would i want to do lt gray subway tiles for backsplash? I thought id go with white and had some glass accent pieces of whatever the floor was.......with maybe a bit of dark deep red that is running thru the granite countertops.....??

but i think its way too "modern" for my kitchen and what is going on. Besides, she's 10 years old. Now, convincing my husband on gray will be something - but he's been so busy and stressed at work, I think he'll be happy to NOT have to make a decision....
