Flooring Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need help choosing flooring

Im remodeling kitchen/nook into a new larger kitchen. Currently I have dark engineered wood flooring throughout the house and that flooring is now discontinued. I need help choosing a new flooring for the kitchen and would like to lightened it up but friends/family advise to keep it dark . Help!

Can you refinish the existing floors to match a new site finished engineered floor?

How big is the kitchen and how dark is the suggested idea from the others. If not meant to match the other part of 1st floor then obviously a stone look can go as dark as slate which has its presence. Plenty of stone looks in medium tones too. Vinyl Squares or real tile but I’d not want real tile . Resilient floors can be so durable and mimic almost anything. Get to a flooring store and samples brought home is going to be the most helpful .

Glue down vinyl planks will get the job done. Just remember: the average duration for flooring in a rental = 7 years. The better the installation, the longer it lasts. And vinyl HAS TO HAVE full time CLIMATE CONTROL. It cannot be left unheated in winter or non-airconditioned in summer. It MUST have climate control. Porcelain tile = 15 year duration in a rental = double the duration of other flooring types in a rental. Glue down vinyl might get you 10-12. Good luck. Remember the "7 year flooring rule" and choose accordingly.

I agree with Maria, definitely lighter and less sheen. We are now working with a customer to replace her thin solid Brazilian Cherry floor in the kitchen and hallway. She had a hard time to find that perfect wood floor to go well with her natural Red Oak cabinets. Take into consideration all of your existing fixed elements like cabinets, trim, etc. I’d steer you away from those grey floors regardless of the size of your house if you have any natural wood stained trim or cabinets.

How about some pics. I'd call the flooring manufacturer and ask for help. Dark is easier to match for site finished engineered.
