Man, I hope you got a steal on that house! :) You're gonna be spending as much or more to renovate it as it cost to buy it. ;) Not to mention the hassle factor of living through all of that drywall dust! Are you sure there isn't an existing 4000-5000 square foot house that meets most of your needs? :)

Whomever said the 48" Berta range hood won't be sufficient for the Wolf is correct. It's not large enough, and it's very borderline on CFM depending on if you're just talking standard burners or burners with a griddle or grill. IT's much better to go with a higher capacity vent and be able to turn it down than it is to go with a low capacity fan and constantly having to grab the gas mask and opening windows and doors every time you stirfry Sczechuan Chili Chicken.

In any event have you been to Aitoro in Westport? If not, please do - They have an incredible showroom and will beat ANY prices (legitimate of course) - I spent so much time there before pulling the trigger - they could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Linda was my sales rep, I thought she would get to the point where she would run and hide when I came in - not the case at all.

Green House, thanks for the feedback on the Bertazoni, is it incorrect in saying that you need a 100 to 150 cfm per foot?

Also I think I got fair deal on the house, had I been willing to spend several hundred thousand more on the house which I wasnt I would not have been able to get the level of finishing or sqft this will have when complete. In Westport lots or should I say teardowns are still selling from 600k to 1.2. I also prefer a project, this way its designed to my taste.

Check out Modernaire's website, it is helpful in terms of figuring out the CFMs, width, depth, etc. you will need. Also, don't forget to include the oven's BTUs. Wolf customer service is very helpful, they can let you know the total BTUs for the range you've selected.

Folks on the Appliance Forum are pretty active and opinionated :-) You may also want to post there for feedback. And, of course, a Google search using your subject + gardenweb will provide good info...there's so much that's been discussed on these forums and looking at past postings is always extremely helpful!

Before purchasing any high end appliances, I'd scour the appliance forum on GW. There is a wealth of knowledge there and knowing about customer service issues and reliability issues is vital, esp when you are not buying cheap. I was surprised at some unreliable brands that I had always considered as high end and desirable.... Knowledge is power!

Have you posted this on the appliance forum? There is a trend away from all matching appliances and towards selecting the best (according to budget/your needs) in each category.

I'm not sure about the value of having Wolf ovens & warming drawer, but I know you definitely don't need to buy a Sharp microwave re-badged by Wolf and jacked up in price accordingly :)

The objective best cooktop is one with fully open burners (like the Bluestar or the Capital) but those brands lack the cachet of the Wolf in a similar price point.

The cachet of a Wolf cooktop and Subzero fridge/freezer might be worth it? At this price point, you also might want to look at Miele for your ovens and fridge/freezer if you haven't already.

RE: hood
Anyone on the appliance forum is going to recommend you go with the 1200 CFM hood with a 48" cooktop, esp. if you're doing a grill. (After extensive research, that is what we went with. I totally agree with GreenDesigns above: it is better to run a strong fan on low than have a lower CFM blower on high not be able to suck up your cooking smells/smoke.)

Very important! Remember to check your local code about make up air requirements BEFORE committing to a blower of that size---make up air can cost a lot of $$. I live in a milder climate, our local code was not terribly clear, so we squeaked by without adding any make up air, but my husband and I know that should we have occasion to run the blower on high, we'll crack a window open across the room! We have a gas fireplace insert, had we a woodburning fireplace, the HVAC guy said he personally would not feel comfortable installing such a strong blower irrespective of the city's code. Hope that helps! :)

Definitely go to the Appliances forum. What you'll probably hear about your list is:

Yes on the Subs
Yes on the Wolf wall ovens
No on the Bosch
Probably no on the cooktop--go Capital Culinarian or Bluestar
No on the hood

I am not sure what they say in the appliance forum now, but a few years ago, they touted the Bosch dw and we got ours after reading reviews. We have had it installed approx 5 months and absolutely love it. It is crazy quiet and cleans like a dream. We don't use all the settings, so may have done fine with their simpler model, but we are sold on the brand. Maybe our model is better than the newer ones (bought it approx 3 years ago). In any case, I am a fan and would recommend Bosch dws based on our experience.
FWIW - I do know they need to be installed properly or you can have issues.....
