I am not a design expert but I think it will look amazing. I am planning the same thing. I will probably wrap the corner a bit with the cabinets and leave the other side empty just as you did. I realized that I would not need cabinets on that side of the window because the dishes in there are going to lower cabinet drawers. I wanted the breathing room and the light more than additional storage. I am sure others will chime in here.

I'd never turn down more cabinets, but I like your design (assuming you have a place for all your junk of course!).

It's not off balance because the window wall isn't part of the cabinet assembly, kinda. You have an island. You have a Wall Of Cabinets and Appliances. And you have nice floaty window unit.

It works.

I would (and did) put drawers on both sides of the oven. You might want shallower drawers in the smaller cabinet for spices and things, but it's all a personal preference thing. Just be sure you have a spot for all your bulky items. You may be able to stick those things in the pantry.

If you want something to the left of the window to balance it (not necessary I think) and there's going to be a bit of wall there as it looks in the picture, just plan to throw up some decorative iron scrollwork or a plate rack or clock or something. I think putting in a small cabinet would look goofy. You'd have to put in enough cabinetry to really shrink that window. And you don't wanna do that!

I agree with fori. I don't think it is unbalanced at all. In fact, I tend to not like the layouts that are cabinet-heavy on one side, and then have one lone cabinet on the other side of a window or opening. You could always take your backsplash all the way to the ceiling around the window -- that would give it some visual weight against the cabinets to the right.

Doesn't look unbalanced to me. In fact, I think one lone cabinet on the other side of the window would look odd--just sitting all by itself. I have a large kitchen window over my sink and counter run on my north wall. It precludes any cabinets on that wall, but I wouldn't trade my window for any amount of storage. BTW, I don't have a large kitchen and can use all the storage I can find--I'm just don't need it bad enough to give up my beautiful window. I really like your layout and think you should stick with it!

I think cabinets on the left of the window would give you a cave-like feeling as you work. I vote no on more cabinets. :-)

Given the choice between upper cabinets and natural light; I will almost always go for natural light. Your design looks great. No more uppers needed.

I envy your large window and would choose it like you did. Looks great I think. Its going to be a pretty kitchen. Keep on with what you've got.

Drawers: yes! I think storing pots and pans in drawers is easier than in a regular cabinet. Mine are just stored flat in the drawer, but the link below has some great organization ideas. (You may have seen this already.)

I think it looks just fine. I love lots of windows for natural light...especially since your cabs are going to be dark. I have very dark cabinets and I would not have chosen them if I didn't have lots of windows. Don't think you messed up at all!

This is almost exactly what we have (except two windows instead of three---total width is 87" with moulding)----same sink counter and range placement. It is super common in houses the same age as ours (1915) and is my favorite thing about our kitchen. The only thing I could see improving it is three windows instead of two so you look out a window at the sink rather than the window divider...so I say you're all good!
