It's really beautiful but I think the answer to your question would depend on the rest of the space.

Over the top in regards to what? It all depends on the kitchen. Need more info to answer your question.

NO WAY is this slab over the top! It's very similar to the one we have. Here's a tip: Let every other element of your space be neutral so it will shine against it. Use grey's in the background to emphasize the colors. Use very simpl and sleek design features. For example, we used pale grey on the walls with natural maple cabinetry. The cabinetry doors are slab style (no grooves or panels). We chose satin finish hardware for the faucet, cabinetry knobs & pulls and the sink too. The table & chairs are natural as well. The pendant globes are white to blend in with the ceiling rather than stick out. In addition, you can have your fabricator do his best to line up the veining on your splash. Ours was able to line up about half the veining without purchasing additional slabs. Hope this is painting a clear picture. This is lovely quartzite & we hope you love it as much as we love ours!

I agree with cienza - this would be the star of the kitchen and as long as you plan around it, it would be beautiful. I love stones with movement, and this has it all over. Spectacular. You could always use it just on the island if you're having one and do a more neutral stone on the perimeter.

cienza, that sounds gorgeous! I can't quit thinking about this slab, however I'm not sure I could pull it off in my kitchen. Although I can still decide on my cabinet color, some other elements are already here waiting.

My guess is that if your cabinets haven't been decided, almost anything else could be worked with. Post pictures you have, or links to the products and it will give folks a better idea of how to make use of this fabulous stone.

You could do a warm deep grey for your main cabinets and pick up the chestnut tones in the slab with a wood island or hutch. That slab would be absolute center stage as the backsplash to a gorgeous French range in a blue with brass. The granite again for the island, with an industrial metal fixture in blue to light it properly would be the finishing touch.

Like the previous posts said, yes this will have to be the focal point and have other elements neutral with minimal detailing so the space is not busy.

Very pretty! I love lots of movement in my stone, so I'd get it in a heartbeat. I picture neutral wood or white/cream cabinets with it.

If you go to The Finished Kitchens Blog, and look up Snowbaby's kitchen and glycera's kitchen, these may give you some idea of how Blue Louise or Van Gogh quartzite looks in place.

I love that slab almost as much as what we got. I think that a granite like that would look great with a number of wood tone choices for the cabinets which would pull the brown tones in the stone. I think the main thing you would need to be careful about is the backsplash choice.

Here is our Azul do Mar quartzite in place. We like having a smooth seamless backsplash with no grout to clean so we used the same granite for a full backsplash. We've had this in place for 5 years.

It is, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. I think the other finishes will have to be both simple and strong. Simple not to compete, but strong enough to stand up to it.

It's not my taste for a countertop but if it were a painting I would hang it on my wall and stare at it all day.

I think it would be fine. Stone isn't all that noticeable when it's plopped flat under a fruitbowl. As a backsplash it might require a little care but it's fairly neutral in spite of being wiggly.

Have you seen this kitchen? It's showing up bluer on this monitor than on my other one. The grayer version is the more accurate, based on my sampling of those colors. The island is Ben Moore Chelsea Gray and the perimeter is Farrow and Ball Downpipe. I think your slab on a Downpipe island would be wonderful. You could go with a uniform paler gray limestone or Caesarstone on the perimeter. GreenDeesigns's suggestion of a blue French range is wonderful, say Portuguese or French blue, depending upon the real life tones of the slab.

While the blue gray cabs would match the granite, I think they'd downplay the color in it and detract from the stone. I'd rather coordinate an orange tone wood or a soft white cab. See how cloudswift's combo makes the blue tones show up as special?
I would not use a single blue element with it as not using blue would highlight the stone's blue tones.
If a matching slab bs is not in the cards financially, I'd do a very pale glass bs or white tone ceramic (an arabesque could be awesome...).
I think the hardware & appliances in stainless and white and stainless lighting would complete the look.

You slab is beyond gorgeous. Our cabinets went up this week. Rainforest green counters come next week. RFG is way over the top, but I do love it. The cabinets are light maple slabs. The pulls are stainless,absolutely plain, all going horizontally. No pendants, just high hats. I am not using RFG as a backsplash. I don't like the way the busy marble/granites look vertically.
With a gorgeous "over the top" counter, I think keeping it simple is the key.

Actually, the cabinets are gray. They don't match the granite at all. I don't know why they came out so blue in this iteration, but the first several times I saw this kitchen, they were clearly gray. You'll have to interpolate--if you've ever seen Downpipe.
