Need aesthetically pleasing ideas for tomato support
Comments (21)This is not particularly cheap, but it has worked well for me in finding a pretty way to keep tomatoes off the ground. I pound about a 3 foot piece of rebar about 1 foot into the ground. Then, I fit a 1/2 inch copper pipe over it. The rebar was free to me, but the copper pipe cost $13 each. I use this as a stake to tie my plants to. I may buy some copper finials on ebay to put on top of the pipe....See Moredecided to tile island countertop. Please share pictures/ideas
Comments (1)We are remodeling a kitchen, and I am going to do tile counters. I did that in our last kitchen remodel and I loved them. Here is how that one turned out: I was really struggling with what to use for a border this time. The bullnose trim pieces we used before were very expensive. I have finally decided on a would trim, faux painted to match the tile. I used to be "anti-tile" and truthfully the only reason we did the tile counters in the last house was because we had several boxes leftover after we did the bathroom shower. But they were very easy to keep clean....See MoreRoses that need support--ideas
Comments (7)Kathy , thanks for posting these!! Great ideas. Please share pics when they are blooming !! I purchased an old wooden ladder I was going to use for clematis but a rose would be nice too! And for Christmas I received a miter saw and made my first project anyone can do . Big box stores will make cuts for you if you need. I am also so ready for spring ! Here's my first project , haven't decided on paint yet. Also the cost was about 15$ ( almost 8 ft tall ) If you don't count the cost of a large box of screws and you have wood glue already. And home dept has stain samples in solid colors for about 4$. So all in all I'm very pleased ! Sorry my pic is sideways , no idea why Edit to add , I think Jasmina will be living here. Or nahema. Excited !...See MoreIsland Support - Please show your pictures
Comments (9)Tube steel stiffer than flat steel because, while steel bends easily, it doesn't like to stretch or compress. When a (supported, but unfixed) steel beam sags from a top load, the magnitude of stretch/compress required is the difference in path length for the top and bottom, and this scales linearly with beam height. So, for example, all else being roughly equal, a 1.25" square tube is about 5x stiffer than a 1/4" bracket. Another fun fact in this regard is that fixing the ends of a steel beam roughly doubles stiffness. In the unfixed beam sag example above, the beam got shorter. But with fixed ends, getting shorter is not an option. The result is that fixed ends roughly double the amount of stretch required for a given deflection, which translates to about 2x stiffness increase for fixed vs unfixed ends....See Morempeg
