exposed on the counter or hidden.. where to put the paper towels
Comments (38)We originally had a dowel in my pull out cubby that is pictured above but switched to that perfect tear holder from amazon. (We have used a vertical one like that for years and it works great!) With the dowel the towels came out too fast. Some mentioned they might be too messy to use a towel holder like mine, but my hands are often messy and you're just grabbing the towel. No need to touch the cabinetry really. To change a towel, yes- but in any case to change the towels you have to touch things to get the new towels, etc. I LOVE it so far- especially now with the perfect tear system. BTW, our cab guy had to take apart the Amazon holder and attach it. Mostly so that it was at the right height in the space. Here's a thread on paper towel cubbies I started. Here is a link that might be useful: My Towel Thread...See MoreWhere to put the #$%^& paper towels!
Comments (29)marcolo-Hahahahahahahahaa! I have first-hand experience with that kind of "evil". When I was a child, we had a baby squirrel that we nursed back to health, and we named him Sammy. Sammy the squirrel was in this large box in my bedroom, and I put all kinds of things in there to make it his "home". Not only did Sammy Squirrel chew his special furnishings, he chewed through the box, he chewed the nose and fingers off my brand-new "Velvet" doll (the evil little rodent!), shredded my mother's window sheers, and as the coup de grâce, ran "up" under my Aunt's patio shift (or house coat) and bit her where the sun don't shine. Fortunately, she was fine. A little frazzled and kinda creeped out, but fine. We let him escape out the front door before my dad came home that day....See MoreWhere to put the paper towel roll??
Comments (13)Don't know yet how it is REALLY going to work but in my design of the cabinet layouts, I had an extra 9 inches in the uppercabinets to fill. Didn't want to add to another upper cabinet because it would detract from symmetry SOoooo - I plan to use this Ikea cabinet below, dimensions 9X39 - I think it is normally used as a wine rack but I even may take out one of the partitions and put often used cookbooks. Funny, the only slot I'm sure about is the bottom one and it will be for my PAPER TOWELS! (another slot might be for olive oil) - I'm so pleased I will have paper towels VERY accessible but still out of the way but also visible to anyone walking into the kitchen who might need them urgently... Whole elevation for North side of kitchen below (in case this north wall looks strange, it doesn't show open shelves to be installed (one on each side) under horizontal cabinets on each side of cooktop):...See MoreWhere should I put my TV?!
Comments (6)If you're not willing to move the furniture in order to access the only other plain wall in the room, then what else can you do? we don't have a magical answer for this. putting it in the corner looks weird. So, that leaves the fireplace. Remove that large mantle you have and do something different. I'd also do something w/that brick. that fireplace could really become a focal point. I don't think you're seeing the potential of that room of yours. some other ideas what's wrong w/either of these? I think they look great. BTW, if you did closed cabs beneath the windows like they've done here, you'd have all that storage for toys and stuff! (ditto if you did hinged benches under the windows. you could hide all of the toys) they don't even have to be built in. just make them to fit under the window and top w/pillos. I love this idea if you have the two windows. this is about the size of your fireplace. a larger tv will work fine. another one w/o windows, but gives you an idea what's to the right of the fp? another window? if not, you could try this: If there is a window to the right and you really don't want the tv above the fp, then consider removing the window OR, put in a smaller window and raise it up towards the ceiling. then you could do something like this (the window would be more of a transom style where this light would be) this is what I mean by changing the furniture. imagine the tv is on the wall across from the fireplace (and those chairs aren't there)...See MoreCT_Newbie
