Also, the question is: Are there too many different design elements causing the kitchen to look too busy. All the drawers will be slab front, the dishwasher panel and trash pull out will also be slab, the rest of the cabinet fronts (pantry, china cabinets, sink, corner cab and refrigerator cab) will all be recessed panels. The uppers on the china cabs and the uppers to left of refrigerator will be glass.

I forgot burlap silk too, in all my previous renovating.

I'll keep in mind your space is to be neutral warm + eclectic but not overly so
I'll keep in mind that sink, range and refrigerator need to remain as placed in the plan
I'll ask if you could peninsulize one of those three walls, and in so doing you manage to keep the X remaining as placed in the plan

base cabs seem framed / frameless in different areas of the kitchen

this is hopefully a new phase in getting to a final design

Natural rift oak tall cabinets, white painted lowers, glass uppers, iron base island with wood top (different from pantry), black stove, stainless fridge and sink, limestone floor, marble backsplash, granite (still unnamed) counters, burlap silk curtains and stuff still to choose.
Oh my - eclectic is fine but there still has to be something connecting all the elements so that your eye is not jumping all over the place. So far, I'm not seeing it - it seems a little confused. You still have time to find a common thread with what you have not chosen but you have to pick a direction and stick to it.

The island- make sure it isn't positioned between the range and the fridge - that would be irritating.

How do you intend to use the island? As blfenton noted, if it's positioned between range and fridge, it will be a nuisance because it will be a barrier island. Also, as a free-standing island, it won't have outlets, which reduces its usability, IMO.

I don't even know what burlap silk is! Count me clueless.

Well, I have to admit...I am very intrigued by your kitchen. Do you have any inspiration pictures? I'd love to see where you got some of your ideas. The warm granites, the range and that island all sound like they could really work together.

The marble backsplash and granite countertops...I'm having a hard time visualizing that combination. The microwave kind of feels like an afterthought, partly due to the placement and that you don't seem to have a brand chosen, as of yet. Have you considered putting it closer to the fridge...or do you use it more, by the range?

I don't think the island will be a problem...with the size of the kitchen I think you need one. It's not blocking access from the fridge to the sink (which is my pet peeve) it will give you more prep space by the range...and it will look wonderful :)

Thanks, LL, for the link. In all the years I worked at a fabric store (granted, a long time ago), I never came across silk burlap. And I don't recall seeing it in recent trips to fabric stores either. Weird that I never did.

It also strikes me as very promising. The windows so uniquely set off--will those metal frames be black to echo the stove, or...? (Just to build the picture.)

David, Cabinets are all frameless and I did drawers in all possible bases (something learned from GW) I added some inspiration photos and some of my range, floor, etc to my photobucket album if anyone is interested.
I have a plan B for the wood cabinets: Paint to match others. That is really the only element I'm concerned about. I am also planning on adding two oriental carpets in red/blue tones under the island and at the sink to bring in some color and balance out the dark of the range, window, chandelier and curtain rod. The silk burlap for the curtains is from Calico Corners and is less rustic than the link above. I will add a photo when I get the order.

I hope I am not building Frankensteins kitchen.
