Help on a linear suspension lighting above island/peninsular

I think this linear suspension lighting isn't quite match with my kitchen. I don't know which part is not right, but it isn't right to my eyes. Is it too short compare to the island? hanged too high/low? The fluorescent tube is too white (cold)? Or the canopy position is weird? Any comment and suggestion to make it blends in more with my kitchen? I like this light fixture for its sleek and clean design, but not so much after I put it in my kitchen. The lighting of the kitchen is not completed yet, there will be LED (very white, like the one underneath the countertop on 2nd photo) strip on top of the wall cabinet.

Cool kitchen! Awesome cat! I like the light but it might be just too self-similar to the rest of the kitchen. It really blends right in. I'm a big fan of the serene look where all the elements are understated, but maybe the light needs to differentiate itself at least a little bit?

Another thing that is not right to my eye is the wire that goes from the ceiling to the fixture. I've never understood why designers of modern light fixtures allow a dangly wire to interrupt the clean lines of everything else. I think that might be the part of the light that jumps out the most.

May I ask what your floor is made of? I like it!

I agree with Karin - the fixture itself is practically invisible next to the other elements in your kitchen, but the cord and round box on the ceiling stick out like sore thumbs.

bestyears is right with the 30-36". Ours are 36". Here's a photo. I didn't realize it, but it's true, your shouldn't be concerned about you or your husband's height because the lights are in the middle of the island and it's not like you will be bumping into them. The consideration should be if you have stools and the lights aren't so high they shine in the faces of the people sitting at the stools, i.e., they can look up into them, or that they are so low they interfere with those sitting's line of vision across the island.

You need pendants with chain. and EXTRA chain and wire. Or the fixture must come with a pivot and the ability for additional stem or customization on the light order.. . It would help to know the highest ceiling elevation. A 126 inch island is not HUGE. You need nothing close to an 82 inch single fixture. It will take OVER : ) Three pendants, forcing light down onto the counter would be just fine. No wider than 15 inches if three and no more than 18 to 20 if two. . You can augment with recessed as well.

I would stick with nickel for all the knobs, in both rooms. Black will look very stark with your other options, and in your bathroom, the floor gives you enough darkness. Round is better than square for knobs because over time as they need to be tightened, the square ones get crooked. I like your third lighting option, which looks more sophisticated. I would wait on the bathroom mirrors until you see the completed space. At that point, it will be more apparent whether metal or wood frames are better, and what shape/size is best.

I asked about guidance of height in consideration of husband s height and out lower ceilings. Forgot to mention I've read 50 articles on placement and I have the general area down, as well as looked at 800 lights myself. That wasn't helping, it's why I asked a direct question on height and size as gave my own direct measurements. A little guidance or a probing question is more helpful than ”your tile is awful” or ”just read the chart” because not everything falls into the chart. In a kind sense, I'll just say you seem to be a woman of strong opinions and great confidence in them. Perhaps I should have note of those traits, but I'm certain they should always be mixed with consideration and kindness. Something like ”perhaps your topic is over broad, consider are-asking just a, b, and c and include just this and we may be able to communicate better.” I've read and used a million HOUZZ articles as we approach being 3 or 4 weeks out from competing a house we designed and built almost entirely ourselves, self contracting the entire thing. I've now nailed down a stone person who just does counter tops and dropped a couple who seem to be just kitchen designers. I'm trying to decide between a couple styles of lights that I am learning terms for each day, and deciding size from a chart when your island is both super long (12 ft) but narrow 40 inches) is tricky, and I want to be sure that the style I choose will provide enough light to work with as we cook a lot. That involves narrowly down by practicality of styles, and not having used them and getting very little info on sites and even worse search engines, it is overwhelming. In the bathroom I'm not sure if, considering the sink is to one side of the countertop near the tower, the lights going over the too of a mirror would be better to go completely across the vanity portion or just centered over the sink with shelves to the side. If the latter, unsure if there is a way I can use sconce lights or no. Majorly, as wires are being pulled SOON, I needed to know the placement for him to do so, three large or two medium on island, and how to place lights and mirror over sink. I can pick them out fine once I figure that out. You were under no obligation to have helped, but a tone that was at best brusque and dismissive, and possible ruse, to myself as well as the other gentleman, must serve you well in your field I guess, I just don't see how. Perhaps it's all me as a first-timer. If so, my apologies. It took a lot for me to even try to ask the questions, and my apprehensions seem justified at the moment. I do appreciate your trying. Karin and Annkh, thanks for your reply. I tried to hang the light in various height but with similar effect. The tube I have installed and shown in photo is 4100K, will try something warmer before really taking it down. The canopy is really bothering me but I know it has to be there for any suspension linear light.

I really like your sleek, modern kitchen. Those floor tiles are great.

I like the linear suspension light, but maybe you need one with more presence? I fell in love with the Flos "Long & Hard" linear suspension lamp designed by Philippe Starck. I kept walking around it at the showroom. It is so slim and clean and simple, but really has presence, especially with the undulating silver texture. Not cheap, but it is lighting and art in one, lol. The name is a bit much, but it is one sexy fixture. The Artemide Talo suspension in silver/gray is also cool, and a bit less expensive.

Looks cool to me. To my thinking the only problem is that it doesn't illuminate the ceiling.

kaysd - i was actually choosing between the Marset Neon de Lux and this Zaneen Utah linear profile, my first mind was set on the Marset but is not available in my area locally so I can't see it in person. From the photo online, it has a rectangular canopy which seems looks better than the Zaneen, and it illuminate the ceiling too. But that's still out of stock. Will go to the lighting store to see the flos too, I once came across the flos skygarden and is stunned by the quality, very impressive.

Another idea for you - Tech Lighting's Kable Light system. We recently installed it in our family room, with the K-Hello heads.
