Another Arch door like St James Sorrento?

Hi all,

Today I got an Impressions by St James brochure from Expo. Wow! They have some nice stuff. The salesperson told me it was their top tier line, which will not be in my budget. :( I love the Sorrento door which is a, what?, angled arch raised panel? In the picture they have it paired with a Palermo RP door and I just love it.

So, has anyone seen this to know what I mean and, if so, do you know of any other mfg that's more mid-price that has an arch like this?

I think, from the picture that it's an inset door, but I'd really just want an overlay in the same style.

Oh, and here's a really badly drawn picture of what I might do with it over the stove. And I'd use 2 glass arched cabs on either side of the sink.

First off, I wanted to let you know that you're not alone--I also fell in love with a St. James Impressions kitchen at an Expo showroom. Our budget did not allow St James either. We are now planning on going with Omega Dynasty/Embassy (semi-custom) and the Artesia door.

For your dilemma:

The Omega custom line (also at Expo) has a door called "Half Milford" that is similar to the half-arch in your picture (similar, not identical). The "Lexington Square" appears to be similar to the "Half Milford" except it's squared off. If the "Half Milford" also comes in a reverse half, you might be able to create the look you're after with:
. . . left arch Half Milford + Lexington Square + right arch Half Milford

Yes, these are custom BUT, with Omega, most of their doors are also offered in the Omega Dynasty/Embassy semi-custom line. This means that you can create a semi-custom kitchen using Dynasty/Embassy and fill in where needed with cabinets/doors from the Omega line.

The "Half Milford" does NOT have a corresponding door in Dynasty/Embassy, but "Lexington Square" does--the "Lynnville Decorative".

So, you could design your kitchen using mostly the "Lynville Decorative" (semi-custom) and add a few Omega custom "Half Miilford" doors to give you the look in a few places. (I'd check the doors at the Expo center or at another cabinet place to see if the Lexington & Lynnville really are just a squared off version of the Half Milford.)

I went to the Omega website and checked the Half Milford out. Like you said, not quite but close. Closer than anything else I've found so far. I'm definitely going back to Expo tomorrow to check them out. I didn't have time to look fully the last time I was there and only got as far as the St James before getting called back home (my daughter forgot her keys and was locked out!).

If you, or anyone else, can think of another mfg with a more angled arch door (not as rounded as Wellborn's, see link), let me know. I'd give you a link for St James, but they don't have it (or much of anything)on their website.

The cabs you picked are Very Nice too. You must be so excited!

You have a dealer in Dallas ~1st Source/Fisher(http://www.gcdoor.com/)They may sell only to builders, but there's an online catalog. You're gonna go nutz when you see their doors! Catching up on this post from yesterday… it just gets progressively funnier. Since we’ve bypassed delicacy, I’m not actually concerned about the *need* for an exhaust fan… And I agree that I don’t expect a guest bath to see much use…just the general strangeness of sitting on the sofa chatting with friends, while some one is in the bathroom two feet away. How often that would be a problem? Probably never… like you said, they can go upstairs. Bellsmom-- I’m impressed with your photoshop skills. That looks really nice!! Thank you! There really isn’t another spot for a powder room. We had considered moving it to the other end of the kitchen, where it could be aligned with the fridge and you wouldn’t see it as a boxed-out area, but then it’s really IN the kitchen. And disrupts the whole layout of the area. We’ve gone back and forth on the backdoor. Bumping it out to square the room would be ideal. But it would require adding a foundation, and also removing the concrete and brick stairs that lead directly down to already existing concrete patio. So it’s not just the door… it’s the other twenty things it affects. I wanted to square the room, and put French doors on the right hand wall, but there is a tree there, and adding steps down to ground level would require removing it. I love seeing it out the window, and was unsure I wanted to take it down. The problem with this project is that we are trying to fix someone else’s poor design rather than doing it right. Which may be only marginally easier than starting from scratch. Thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts!! I will upload a photo when we have some kind of mock up of the wall… hopefully it will give us a better idea of how it might look in reality. Bellsmom’s photo kind of looks too good to be true. And I liked the idea of bookshelves, although the wall would probably be better as a sofa wall, since the room is long and narrow and the sofa depth would be better not sticking into the room.

See, I'd just tell my DH that he could enjoy the sunrise while he's doing the laundry rather than while he's making coffee! ;) I kind of like the look of latest rendition, but I'm not loving the function. Leaving the laundry in the MBR would kill it for me. I know you don't mind it, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't be a sticking point for some potential buyer down the road. It would be for me. The issue raised earlier about kids having to come in the parents' room to do their laundry as they got older would be even stickier with the addition of another bedroom--i.e., room for a second kid with laundry needs. Could your stackable W/D fit in that closet area in the mudroom? Also, how will you use this desk? Will it become your home office space? If not, it seems like it would become a clutter magnet, ruining that nice view. I still prefer the rendition above where you reuse your sink and five-panel door. I think it makes the space far more useful in a house where useful space is at a premium.

Cheri, that may be a fair criticism of my use of the word "impervious", with some caveats. There is no product that can truly say that it cannot be damaged by woodpeckers. That said, we have replaced cedar siding on many homes over the years due to repetitive woodpecker damage, and after the Smartside product was installed, they stayed away. I have not seen a single instance where that was not the case in my own experience. The product is much harder than cedar and does not harbor the insects that they are looking for. I'd also clarify that in the context of my comment I was comparing the product to fiber cement, and the Smartside product does have superior impact resistance, which would logically correlate to its resistance to woodpecker "drumming" as well as hail. As far as your picture, is that your home? When was that installed and which product was it? The pic is a little foggy, but it looks like a smoother texture than that of the LP stand based lap siding... I can't say for certain, but that doesn't look like the product. This seems like a questionable first post to the forum as well, particularly since the thread subject is not even about siding. Given that the thread is about Beechworth windows, it should be also mentioned that as was speculated by some professionals as a possibility-- if not likelihood-- a few years ago, this product is no more. http://media.graytvinc.com/documents/Beechworth+Windows_11-08-18.pdf It looks like Rachel was considering the product just a month before the shut things down, I hope that she was not left high and dry.

Try Bertch custom. They have a door, that is not in their brochure but in the KD book, that is 2 half arches. You can put glass in it or just have the arch in raised molding.

I know because I was going to do my island in Bertch Legacy which is their semi custom line and 4 doors that face the entryway in the Bertch custom with the 2 half arches that made the whole door.

It was about $3200 just for the doors alone as the doors I needed were really big.

Crystal Cabinets also make 2 half arches. You have to ask then which ones as I do not remember.

I am looking for half arched cabinet doors, too. I came across some in a less rounded arch by Branaman Cabinet Inc. in two styles - raised panel and 1/4 panel. Here is the website: http://www.bcimo.com/archeddoors.html (link below). I don't know about their pricing but you can contact them for info. Also, since they do custom work, you could check to see if they can do these with glass inserts, if that's what you are looking for.
