Interesting accent piece or not so much?
Comments (24)While I love the shape, I would paint it black since it isn't in the perfect condition you're wanting~this would help balance out the piano. I've used vintage French dressers as night stands~nightstands are way too small as well as too low for my bed. Besides, the function is no different than a nightstand, just more spacious. I could definitely see more black in the room~have you considered an area rug w/black background? Black lampshades, changing out the white vases for black, the balls in the glass compote to black, and a black/ gold frame on the mirror would all be ways in helping balance out the space with re:to the black if used it thruout the room. Don't change out the pillows unless you can find a print w/black~I think a solid would be too heavy looking. I would also paint the interior of the front door black~it would make a huge difference....See MoreHorton Brasses new pulls - so good i feel nauseous...$$$
Comments (10)Slush - I think you're in the perfect phase. I've now got a photo to be able to show, but the contest won't close until after I've needed to order pulls (which I had to do a couple days ago). I think the timing on something like this is problematic. It may best work for someone who wants a little renovating-touchup rather than who has a new kitchen going in with none in the background! No one wants to wait for some random judges' decision (sorry sabjimata) - and then what if you don't even win and you'd been delaying your own purchase? Just silly. So I think you're in the right place for such a contest, and I think the ones they should be searching for are people who don't like their *current* hardware. Making this work with a new build or to-the-studs-renovation is just too hard. (just sayin - not trying to be insulting of the contest, but supportive of your seemingly too-raw state. I think it's, surprisingly, the ideal time if you can envision already what sort of hardware you'd even be wanting)....See MoreWouldn't it be tempting?
Comments (56)The closing is scheduled in January. I do not know whether it will take place as planned because the closing on my Buyer's property is scheduled the day before. So HE has a signed offer, but they are waiting on mortgage commitment because the buyers of THEIR property needs to get a mortgage and that property is a Co-op, and very few companies even do mortgages for Co-ops. So it is all proceeding, but all out of my control. We will also be living virtually downstairs from the new owner for a few months (in a rented unit) so I have to be nice. On the flip side, which is a year and a half ago, the Sellers of the property I bought were apparently problematic, not for ME, but I think they tortured their Realtor. I believe there were internal arguments regarding how the proceeds of the sale were to be dispersed within the family so ALL of the paperwork changed at one point. Then there was the bathroom that was put in between the time I saw the house and the time my offer was accepted on the house. It's appallingly done, and my offer and the competing offer both wanted that bathroom remodeling to STOP, but it would have affected the appraisals at that point. It got to the point that there was no paint left from the original staging and the Realtor told me he was going to try and figure out the color and paint it himself, That is how it ended up between him and the sellers. The seller's Realtor, I get the impression, may have walked away with near zero commission on that sale. I don't know whether the half bath to full bath reno was his idea or what but I have a feeling he ended up paying for it out of his commission. It worked out for me because I was able to rent it as a 2 bath house. But he really had a depressed look on his face when I said that bathroom was hitting the dumpster as soon as a new plan was drawn up. It seems so wasteful but it is Completely unsalvageable....See MoreBrass tray table and new table base: origin? Does it go?
Comments (19)I do have the original stand, which I will keep. It is low folding wood, only 15” high. I can’t use that height, though. At that height the table has no useful function. No one is going to sit on the floor to use it. My friend was going to sell the tray table, and I knew I was going to regret it once it was gone. I said I would take it only if I could find a table of the height I needed that would work with it: fast! I need it to hold a reading lamp and a cup of tea. My current table is 27 inches, perfect height, but way too big for the space, and wrong style (it’s a modern brass console table). Building a platform under the original legs would look awkward. I would have to almost double the height. I mocked something up last week and it looked really contrived. When I saw this, perfect height and diameter, I asked myself, “What are the odds I’ll ever find something better?” So I bought it. It was only $ 25. That’s good around here for a table that is not hopelessly beat up and in need of repair and refinishing. Oddly enough, it is very stable. I didn’t see it til I got the table home, but the top is slightly cupped. The slight curve of the brass tray fits right into it. I was planning on securing the top with a ring of silicone caulk anyway. Consensus seems to be that it does not go. I will use it as it is, and hope something better turns up in the next few years. Patty cakes, interesting about your large trays. I have a huge rectangular one I bought from a friend’s son over 20 years ago. He had tried to clean it with brasso and got white residue in all the grooves, and gave up on it. It’s ideal coffee table size. I have NEVER been able to find anything that would work for a base. I still have it in the basement. I always hoped I would make some legs someday. Or hang it on the wall. Or something. At this point, the coffee table niche is long filled (with a 30” round brass tray table that HAS its own base, and was already clean when I bought it.) But I still have not gotten rid of the big rectangular one. Can’t bring myself to do it. I’ll take another picture with it in place....See Moreainelane
