Kitchen window hardware - Should I go dark or light?

Our appliances are being installed today so I'm inspired to finish up our kitchen again! Here's my kitchen (for the gazillionth time). Notice that all our cabinet hardware, faucets and pendant lights are in a silver finish (chrome or polished nickel).

And here are two windows that we will be dressing with cotton curtains. We'll hang both rods just below the bulkhead, and level with each other since the sliding doors are lower than the window on the right.

The curtains will be a similar colour to these ones to lighten up the room (these ones are silk though).

Our metal rods will show as we'll hang the curtains from matching rings, like this:

We are going with the Pottery Barn finials in the square shape. Do you think I should do them in the Pewter finish, which would go with our other hardware in the room:

Or the Bronze, which would contrast well with the curtains and pick up on the other dark elements:

The more dynamic look is bronze rods as a contrast to white curtains. That would be my choice. It ties in to the dark cabinetry too and will pop from the wall. If you go with the pewter, I think it will be a very subtle look.

i would go with the bronze...nice contrast to the light curtains.

Rebeccamom, there are so many people with the same dilemma, we should start a "show me your kitchen window" thread. I also have a finished kitchen with a naked window. While these are my backyard neighbors, I also live in New England and the window feels stark when the leaves come down. I just purchased Levolor cellular white blinds which they custom cut at the store and are really reasonable. It is still in the box and awaiting DH's next day off. I thought it would still give me the naked look, but could pull it down on those cold evenings that have already started. I saw some custom roman shades online at jcpenny, but I need to call to find out if I can get fabric samples.

I am replacing an old ceiling fan in my kitchen that I'm renovating. The rest of the lighting is recessed, so this will be the only fixture. 8 foot ceilings, so has to be flush mount. White cabinets with brushed brass hardware.

I would still argue for continuing the current floor through the space. It's just too small to mix floors and have it look good, particularly given what you've invested in opening it up. I think the floor you're looking at putting in will detract, rather than add, to the value you're putting into the coop. That said, budget is of course a reality. Given that you're looking at adding a fairly small island that's a fairly standard length, what about adding a freestanding island instead of a cabinetry island, and using the savings for he floors? IKEA and Crate and Barrel both make some islands that could be great for your space and have the look you want, particularly if paired with white perimeter cabinets. IKEA Crate and Barrel

I think I too like the contrast of the bronze. Can't wait to see it - with more pics please!

I also like the bronze with your choice of color on the curtains. Can't wait to see your beautiful backsplash and appliances, it is all coming together nicely. This kitchen is going to be beautiful!!

I like the pewter ones much the best. I think the dark bronze ones would be distracting from the overall picture and sorta' shout, 'Hey, look at me.'

Pewter gets my vote -- I'd be more interested in trying to match other hardware than other dark elements such as cabinets.

I feel torn on this one. Contrasts are nice, as I have that look going on with my living and dining rooms. But something about the pewter just speaks to me - I just haven't seen it anywhere (including on the Pottery Barn site) so I have no idea if it will look good! I feel like I have a lot of dark going on, with the dark floors and island and some of the cabinetry. Hmm...I'm going to buy the pewter at Pottery Barn, I already have the bronze. I'll hold them both up and ask the question again!
