subdued black soapstone question

We have tried so many different combos for our counters that we have lost track. We are now planning on using laminate with a metal edgeband, like the old days for our counters, island and peninsula.

Someone mentioned that their laminate was scorched near their stove due to human error. It got us thinking that we might want to use ss on the island to make it more bulletproof near the cooking area. I know laminates have been used near stoves for decades, but it would also serve to give us some natural stone in our design.

The question is what kind of soapstone reads black and has little pattern to it? We do not want any of the ones that have green in them because our kitchen will have white cabs, mostly white appliances, a black dw, white w/black accents on the floor, gray & white counters and lavender w/black and white accents in the backsplash, all accessorized with chrome. Adding in green would be one thing too many. The laminate for our counters has a subtle pattern of gray and white to it and we will have a tile liner in our bs that has a simple b&w pattern, so we need a very neutral ss for the island with only a hint of variation, yet don't want a 100% plain solid black.

I know this sounds confusing so will post some pics to help illustrate:

The layout covers most of our work portion

backsplash the lower gray part is actually chrome
