I can give you #'s for the Sharp Dishdrawer.

When the door is fully open it extends out 18" from the cabinet. I have a one inch overhang so it is 17" from the countertop. Another dimension to consider is that the control panel extends out 1.75", so it is further out than the countertop by 3/4". This bothers me slightly, not enought to do anything about it. but wanted to mention it to you for planning purposes. In general, if another MW solution easily presents itself, I would consider that. In my small kitchen I didn't have a lot of options.

oh, btw, I almost fell out of my chair when I read what your CP quote is. what are you going to do? I was going to suggest looking at Kennebec but I think sayde said they were even more. not really my business but if you haven't made a decision yet you should get the name of pluckymama's custom cabinet maker. She is getting alot of cabinets for a good price and she is in NH too. just wanted to mention that.

Hi Karen! You typed dish drawers but I know you meant MW drawer. I won't have any upper cabs so I need an under-counter MW, and I really don't want to have to stoop down for a standard MW. Is your issue with the control panel the way it looks sticking out? Mine will be on the side facing the sink wall so at least it won't be visible when you walk tothe room.

Hope you didn't hurt yourself falling out of your chair. =) The funny thing is I really expected Taylor Made to come back a lot cheaper, being a smaller shop without Crown Point's heftier marketing budget. Pluckymama did give me her cabinet maker's name some time ago, but I didn't look into them because they're kind of far from me. I worry about choosing a cabinet shop that's not accustomed with working with non-local clients, unlike Crown Point which has clients all over the country.

Our F&P dishdrawers extend 20.5" beyond our cabinets. We have ours situated in a very busy 39" walkway which is also congested with stools at our peninsula (making the walkway 34" when the stools are pushed in.) I had set ideas and wasn't willing to make any of my other dimensions smaller to widen the walkway. But it works out fine because the beauty of the dd's is that just a little shove gets them out of the way quickly and easily.

FWIW, I absolutely love our CP cabinets and have no regrets that we put off other projects so that we could afford them (bascially our whole house remodel budget went into our kitchen but this decision worked well for us.)

I was able to figure out a way to shift things around a little in order to get the MW out of the way of the DW drawers.

Zelmar, when you mentioned you have CP cabs, I ran over to the FKB to look for your kitchen, but it's not there! Got any pics you'd like to share? How long ago did you have them installed? I'm infatuated with CP cabs, and it's gonna be tough giving them up if I have to.

Hi erikanh, our kitchen in the "in progress" section of the fkb. DH is making some of our lighting fixtures and I refuse to call it done until they are up---so we've been at 95/98% for 3+ years (our cabinets were installed March-June 2005). Good thing we have classic cabinets. Otherwise the kitchen would probably be hopelessly out of date by the time I consider it "done". I think the FKB link brings you to my photobucket album which is not at all organized and often has multiple shots of one view---not really ready for prime time.

I know what it's like to fall in love with cabinetry. I first scoped out cabinets in a couple of local lumber yards in the early 90's. There was just one line of cabinet I really really liked and I put some literature in a folder. More than a decade passed and I checked out cabinets again in 2004. I was introduced to CP by a family member. I loved them and compared to some bathroom cabinets we had made by a cabinetmaker friend they seemed like a good value. After ordering the cabinets I found my old folder from 1991 and the cabinets I had loved then were CP! Obviously their sales method had changed (no longer in lumberyard kitchen showrooms) but my heart held steady without me knowing it. Lucky thing we waited so long because we're at a different point in our lives where we're willing to spend money on the infrastructure of a house we hope to still be living in in 40 years.

Did your DH makes all your light fixtures? I especially love the ones over the sink.

Thank you! DH did the 2 lights over the sink--they differ a little (hard to see from the photo) and he'll choose one and make 3 alike. The fixture over the peninsula is a Pottery Barn one that I had over our table pre-reno. We'll eventually replace it and put 2 more pendants over the main sink. Unfortunately a lot of other projects have higher priority. Good luck with your kitchen! I absolutely love our dish drawer dw.

Our Sharp MW Drawer extends the same as mamadadapaige's. We only have 36" between countertops, but it's not been a problem. We just love it!

I ultimately chose to skip the MW drawer but I did learn a lot in the process. . .

There are a couple of companies (now including Viking) which offer MW drawers without handles. If you're concerned about things sticking out/not sticking out then those might be a good choice. I'd thought about going handle-less because some of the MW drawers with handles still say not to use the handle to close (or was it open? I can't remember) because it will jam the gears-go figure- and I know my family wouldn't be able to remember until the darn thing broke!

One last thing that was pointed out to me was the cleaning issue. I don't know about you but I've blown a thing or two up in my microwave over the years and in the drawer models it seems like a major pain to get in and twist around to clean the top of the microwave. Appliance store employees will poo-poo you on that one but I thought it was a legitimate concern.
