I can't figure out where to plant all the Clems I've purchased
Comments (37)We are getting off the topic, but I remember the lush yard of my childhood w/ all the clover and watching the honeybees, and the exciting days when we would take the honey out of the hives... I planted clover and I wish all the weedy grass would go away! (No neighbors are going to care here as our lots are set in the middle of woods, and we are out in the country.) My clover has had a tough time (doesn't like sand?), but there is one low-growing weed that I am encouraging as it does not need to be mowed. No mowing is my goal. As for my clems (many of which you all enabled!), they are doing fairly well. I was most impressed w/ Arabella- the best bloomer! I have mostly watered from my rain barrels this summer and it is not very satisfactory because the sand soaks up the moisture so fast (great for watering pots and small areas though). I too have to figure out where to plant the ones I stuck in pots in the spring. Most are going into the rose garden (if the roses don't make it maybe the clems will). I have planted several to climb up my deck railings. I know there is a lot of controversy about adding soil amendments, but I am with the other readers who see the fence as a prime planting ground. Maybe someone who knows more about amendments could help out? I wish you the best of luck in finding them a good place, and would appreciate it if you will wish me luck as well. Thanks, Brandy...See MoreI've fallen behind but here's a bunch
Comments (14)THANK YOU Kay for appreciating the pics of Zeus. You could say I'm a proud mama.....I think he's special....but it's nice to know that someone else thinks he's special too! Jean, I felt so bad when Ms. Blackie passed last year. I loved seeing her in your photos and I could tell you & her shared a special bond. I know you must be so lonely for her. It's a pain that never really goes away and I understand. I still mourn for a cat I lost 5 years ago. He dropped dead in my arms without warning. He was a young cat and it was totally unexpected. Maryl, Yes....we have wild critters in the woods all around us (live on a mountain). There are woods in back and across the street and we hear coyotes running in packs at night....sounding very close. I always have Nemo come in at night but like you said, animals are getting more bold and being spotted in people's yards. Mantis, I have only had Winged Migration for 2 years so I don't have too much to report. It doesn't appear to be especially vigorous since it's only increased by 1 fan....bud count isn't great just yet. Shelby's Song, on the other hand, is already a huge clump and well-budded.....only in my garden 3 years. Celeste...See Moreoh, no, I've fallen in love with Restoration Hardware...
Comments (3)A recommendation for RH. They have a Freinds and family sale event every Dec or Jan. The entire store is 20% off. It's worth waiting if making a big purchase. I love RH furniture and have two chairs and a side table from there. They are really good quality, but a look even better in the catalog staged and expertly lighted in a multi-million dollar home. Their upholstered goods are made by the same manufacturers as many other catalog and department stores. Also, Calico Corners offers great quality and hundreds of color color and finish options for about the same price if you wait until there frequent 20-30% off sales....See MoreHelp! I've fallen under a mountain of papers and I can't get up..
Comments (16)You've got two categories: the stuff being brought home for keeps, and the stuff that is homework, that has to circulate back. For the first, you have to consider whether to keep. The teacher gets through the day, and the kids often (not always) learn by doing things with paper, and once the projects have served both those functions, those papers will have served the purpose they are in the world for and can go. There are precious little artworks or journal pages in there that really express your children and that you may want to keep, but most can go. Problem is, I could never really distinguish when I was in the thick of it coming home - I had to wait a few years, or at least to year end. Your best friend, in my opinion: plastic boxes. Just pry open the lid, slip in this week's batch, close and forget for now. The boxes don't have to live in the hallway - the kids could put their stack of paper in their cubbies, or in those wall files, and it could be transferred once a week to their box - in the basement or something. The inevitable homework that accidentally gets mixed in with the keeping stuff can be easily retrieved. The wrought iron wall files will look like he(( stuffed, but maybe if you empty them once a week you'll enjoy them nonetheless. Jannie: gotta love it - mine's 19, and I am sure I have stuff of similar vintage. KarinL...See MoreLori Ryan
