Good for you! A perfectly sensible plan while the "big plan" is on the back burner, with the bonus that it will be a welcome change. There's nothing like a family crisis to put things in perspective.

I agree. Sometimes just small changes can make a really big deal in the way we feel about a room.
I have one bathroom that still needs updating. It just isn't a priority. A few years ago, we repainted the walls and I added carpet. Made the world of difference.
Also after watching so many of those home decorating shows, I have changed around accessories. By moving things to different rooms, your eye see if in a different way.

A quick fix is great to lift the spirits, and paint is one of the quickest. When you find the perfect green, maybe some nice new towels will help, too. Have a great time!

LOL! No, I brought home paint! It's called Wild Asparagus and my nephew helped me choose it :)

We had a lot of fun yesterday...we looked at floor samples at Lowe's and could find NOTHING, but then I went to HD and found some really cute marble-esque tiles. I think they will work well, given the very limited selection. Everything seems to be that faux-slate and it just isn't my style.

I can't start painting until I CLEAN the kitchen, but I'm excited to take some pictures.

Oh, my nephew is 17 and it was his first 'decor' trip. He was there for muscle (floor tiles are heavy) but we had a lot of fun. We also found fabric for my mom's project (dining room in former back bedroom of her small home) and he helped with the fabric and chose the paint. I think he's hooked! :)

Woo hoo!!! I use my nephew all the time for my home projects. He's a good worker and has pretty good ideas too. He even watches HGTV, but I don't hold that against him - ha!!

I'm curious is "Wild Asparagus" a different color than farm grown asparagus. Haha...I guess the name sounds fancier!

Lavender Lass, this sounds like an excellent plan and I can't wait to see your paint color and floor. They sound like an excellent combination and will certainly brighten up your kitchen on those long winter days. I'm so glad to hear that DH is almost ready to start helping in the kitchen again--that's great progress!

What brand of paint is it? I've been googling "wild asparagus" but haven't come up with any matches.

LOL! It's in between 'Young Budding Green' and 'Spring Green Twig' but it's a little more sage than the names would suggest...but it's a great match to my herb potholder 'inspiration'. It was the only thing I could find yesterday, that had a color similar to my cabinets (the pot) and the purple accents (the lavender) and the right shade of green, in the leaves :)

Have fun with it! I think you have to keep a sense of humor when you're painting green. DH is positive that the shade of green I painted our kitchen (after trying several test pints and finally having a color custom-mixed) is the same shade I hated when we tried it out 15 years ago. lol. I hope your new color and new floor is a cheerful change for you!

Brand of paint...hmm. Well, we started at Lowe's and since we couldn't find floor tiles, we decided to go next door to Walmart and look for fabric. Found the fabric for my mom...beautiful ($5 yard!) drapery weight chintz with robin's egg blue background, yellow roses with gold/peach centers and lots of leaves...and decided to go find paint to match. Ended up buying Glidden for her room and mine (satin finish). I don't like to spend a lot of money on paint...been there, done that...might for farmhouse remodel, but not in this kitchen :)

NC- Thanks! My mom has a green kitchen and it's perfect for her. More leaf green than what I chose, but it's lovely with her wood cabinets and faux-black granite (specks of tan and gold) counters.

I usually just find something I like (this time potholder, as mentioned above) and choose a paint to match. The only time I've ever had a difficult time finding a paint color was for my niece's room. She wanted purple and turquoise and I wanted BRIGHT, clear purple. Ended up having to have a three-ring binder color matched. It was exactly what she wanted...we used the purple and turquoise as accents on white furniture (it was her Hannah Montana period) and we added flowers and butterflies. Also painted a small bookcase the purple, with a bit of white added...she loves that room :)

We used to pick wild asparagus that grew on the irrigation ditches when we lived on the Western Slope, in Colorado. I can tell you with authority, that it is indeed the same color as farm raised asparagus. :)

That sounds like a very productive trip, and a lovely color choice. Of course, I'm partial to green in the kitchen. Can't wait to see your pics and watch the progress.

I'd say this color is more asparagus soup, than asparagus, but it's a good match to my other colors. Anything different will be a nice change! I don't dislike the soft orange/gold I have now...it's a good match to the wood. But, I associate it too much with the past year...so time for green and a little purple. Purple always makes me feel happy!

I love purple outside and like it more inside than I ever have before, but still really wouldn't do much--my DIL's sitting room with a range of purple surfaces taught me that. But I have a brilliant purple glass vase that's the most gorgeous color I've ever seen with the light shining through it. Asparagus green would be lovely with it.

Rosie- I agree...too much purple can look gray, in the wrong light. I do like it with green, cranberry and gold. Very fairy tale :)

Deedles- I don't think so, but my monitor isn't always exact. My sample is similar to this, but a little lighter. The sample below mine, is almost an exact match to this kitchen...at least on my monitor :)

LL, our bedroom is a similar color, but a bit darker, It is indeed very restful and soothing.

I don't have a picture of my bathroom, actually and our camera is out at the other house. My green is brighter... the wall is called 'green apple' if I remember correctly. I wouldn't call it restful but that one you showed looks great and looks like it would go nicely with oak-ish colored cabinets, too.

Hi LL!! You don't have to pay a lot for paint because you can get anything color matched, pretty much anywhere, but I find it helpful when looking for just the right shade, to look at the palettes the pricier brands show. The colors below are Farrow and Ball (from the left, Green Ground, Cooking Apple Green, Tunsgate Green). I think the Cooking Apple Green is lovely next to white trim. Also, have you considered the Armstrong Luxe Plank vinyl for your flooring? It's really nice looking. The "Good" level comes in a sugar maple, pine and oak colors, any of which would look great with green walls and oak cabs.

That's almost a sand-scrubbed look. Like old Europe. Although sand wasn't necessarily used, many homes had raw wood floors scrubbed to a satiny smooth matte surface.. That tile could be a great start on a Scandinavian look, for instance. Waiting to see the "marble-esque" tile Lavender and assistant like, though.

You know, I intended to do a deep golden background to set rich colors against in our bedroom, but I took one glance at my tobacco-brown going on our sloping attic ceiling and ran, not walked, to grab a couple gallons of an inoffensive pale taupe. Nothing like your own conditions. I imagine I over-reacted, but in mine the tobacco looked like a day-glow enhancement of a baby's first diaper, and summers in this climate require all windows be open and an overhead fan blowing all night. So the room is cream, pale taupe, white, brown, and green instead of, as planned, jewel tones (Lavender's fairy tale) with garnet, emerald, topaz.
