it sounds like you need to use some photo program to load the photos from your camera to and it can resize them to any size you need. I do not think this is a windows problem so returning the computer for that would be pointless.

What program are you currently using when you put your camera pictures on your pc and exactly how are you putting them on the pc? are you removing the memory card from the camera and inserting it into a card reader and moving the pictures from that to the pc? That is the easiest way to do it and the way with the best results usually.

Or did you install some type of software that came with the camera?

I don't think it's a Windows problem either... I think it is a Sony problem, because my pictures work fine on my friend's computers who also have Windows 7. In the past, I have always just uploaded them right from the memory card (I put it in the card reader slot on the computer) by clicking on "computer", then the card, then picking the one I want. So frustrating. I didn't install the sofware that came with the camrea because I've never needed it before....

It does not sound like a computer problem.

A picture is just a file (.jpg), the computer just takes the file and keeps or move it back and forth ithout modifying it.

Do you have a memory card reader? or a printer that has slots which can read memory chips?

Take the memory chip out and read it to the computer direct and see what happens.

I can't even figure out if you are downloading 'directly' to the site that you're having the problem with?

You say you can post 'the same' photos from other friends computers?

Can you post these pictures to the forum or not?

I suspect that you need a program like Irfanview to resize and 'compress' your photos before you post them!?

If you can clear up some of the points that I mentioned above .. We may find an answer to the problem.

Yes I am downloading directly to the site that I am having problems with....

If it works on every computer except this one, the problem must be specific to this computer. Exchanging it for a different machine will tell me what I need to know and solve the problem.... I just hate to go through the hassle and to settle for an inferior machine.

I have taken the pictures off the memory card and put them right on the computer (in the pictures folder and on the desktop and it still doesn't work). I can post them if I use paint to reduce them to about the size of a thumbnail (a little larger than that), but these are the same pictures I've posted before directly to the same site without resizing (which means they do not exceed the site limit for pictures that are too large).

When I said "they were taken in 3 and 5 megapixel formats, and neither of them work even though I've never had this problem before" I meant my own pictures.... I wasn't trying to post some crazy huge pictures.

Here's an example of a picutre I took myself that I cannot post on the forum with the new one (I can only post it here because I'm using photobucket.... the forum doesn't accecpt photobucket codes so I have to upload it directly by clicking "upload photo" and then browing for the one I want and clicking it)

Here's an example of a picture I got from Google that works just fine... I've done it with photos twice that big and they are fine as long as they don't come from me... but mine are fine on every other computer, whethere it's Vista or Windows 7....

OK, I think I have figured out part of the problem.... The forum that I'm trying upload the pictures onto has an upload limit of 300K per picture. I never realized it before, but most of my pictures are around 1000K.... even though the site has the limit, the very same 1000K pictures upload perfectly from other computers and from my old one, but now they will not from the new one.... but if I reduce them to 300K, they work... 301K they will not work. I don't know why they worked on other computer and the very same pictures will not work on this computer even though they are the exact same size, but this is where the problem is... Of cousre I could reduce them all a much smaller size to make them 300K, but that is a lot of work every single time I post a picture and it makes them too small to really see what's going on.... hoepfully someone here has some insight now that I seem to know what the prolbem is! Other people are posting 500K to 1000K pics and it's working fine for them...

300k really is really generous of the web host...he probably has to pay for bytes... but too many bytes for most web pictures on forums. People with slow internet connections have to wait for the page to load if many 300kb pictures on it. Thats no fun.

You might want to right click & select properties to see the file size on some of your pictures in the forums that you have uploaded from other computers - that were uploaded in your 3 to 5 megapixel cam settings.

Your web forums don't care you took a pic with 3 or 16 megapixel settings... if you are going to put it on their server ...they care about the picture file size in kilobytes, or megabytes... not megapixels.

I would also suggest that you download and learn to use this software.

For the sake of folks who are on a dial up or slow connection, the smaller or more optimized/compressed an image is, the faster it will load.

The picture of the computer you uploaded here is about 101 kb and the flamingo picture is about 119 kb, so neither should exceed the image size limit of the forum you are trying to post to.

Without knowing where you are trying to post pictures it's difficult to offer specific advice but the problem is NOT your computer and replacing it will not help.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it... the reason the picture I posted here is 104K is because photobucket resized it... the original is 1.32 MB. It is the same size as photos I've posted successfully to the forum on other computers... the same size as other photos that is why I think the problem is with this computer and the way it is dealing with file size... this is the only computer I have this problem on! I will play with Irfanview.

I just realized something... apparently, before on my old machine (and on other computers) they are being converted to a smaller size automatically... here's what I mean

Here's a link to a thread I posted over a year ago about a vacuum that a friend restored for me.... the pictures of the machine itself and the guy resoring it for me are all under 300K on the forum itself, but they are still on my memory card and they are all about 1330K on my memory card and I never changed anything about them. Is there some kind of setting where the computer automatically reduces them that I don't know about? The size posted on that thread is definitely sufficient, but it seems now that I have to make them much smaller (in size).... I still have those same pictures on my memory card and they will not post unless I reduce them significanly (I can tell whether or not something is going to post by doing preview mode, so I don't have to submit a new thread thread when I test something)

Any help would be adored and appreciated... I think I'm just missing some setting or something.... I've not changed anything on the camera itself, and even if I had, the old pictures that I posted before should still post with no problem and they don't.... thanks :o)

Here's another example of a more recent thread that someone else posted... the 2nd picture in that thread of a Kirby handle is 486K, so even though the size limit is technically 300, it is still working fine for other people.... weird!

I am adding a link below to a super easy simple image resizer. That is all it does - no photo editing, just resizes images. You can choose small, medium, large.

I reduced a 5.2 MB picture to 167 KB by choosing the "medium" size. It automatically renames the file by adding "medium" to the end of the file name, so your original is preserved.

After installing the resizer, you just have to right click on the picture - choose "resizer picture" and then OK - EASY!

You can resize more than one at a time by holding down the control key while you select multiple pics.

The thing to remember, I beleive, it is not a Window's issue or a Sony's issue. A file is a file, when you transfer files, nothing is done to it.

Possibly the Sony comes with a graphic's/photo editing software, that will do things to files if you use that to move picture files.
