Installing power outlet in Medicine cabinets?
Comments (19)An update on my 2009 posting. We now have had a Century Medicine cabinet with outlet in it since then (so over 8 years). A few years back we the electric cord from the mirror to the inside of the cabinet snapped (must have got trapped in the door over the years which weakened it). We called Century asking advice and they immediately sent us a new door with cord attached which was very easy to install ourselves. Excellent service and I am sure it was well out of warranty. That was years ago and no other issues....See MorePower Feed For Under Cabinet Plugmold
Comments (6)The back fitting you mention is to adapt an existing surface box to plugmold. Typically, it would be used to convert an existing duplex outlet to a run of plugmold. I don't think it is applicable to your needs. If the plugmold is mounted flat to the bottom of the cabinets (sockets facing downwards), you just need to cut a hole in the side of the plugmold at the end so the wiring can vanish into the wall. The hook-up can be made within the plugmold....See MoreQuestion: Can anything be done about the under cabinet power-strip?
Comments (11)Why obsess about the power strip junction box when the reality is going to be ugly black cords dangling in front of the backsplash? In the OP, the thing that I notice is the toaster cord. The J-Box is so minor. The whole 'Hide the electricity' is just dumb. A kitchen is a workshop; make it user friendly. Don't kid yourself by saying, "Oh, I will always unplug the appliance." Because by the tenth time you struggle, bending over and craning your neck to see where the outlet is and align the prongs to plug it back in, you are going to leave it plugged in. And those dangling cords are going to look 100x worse than a few outlets in the wall ever will....See MoreUnder cabinet power outlets in Ontario Canada
Comments (5)it seems that the plugmold I have seen online is not 20 amp, cfgi, tamper resistant etc. As my electrical knowlege is limited to plugging things in I am at the mercy of the supposed experts I have talked to. I know nobody personally who has this installed in their kitchen. Re Patricia’s remarks, beggars can’t be choosers in my town…I’m lucky to have gotten a contractor at all, two others turned my job down as being too small. The third’s quote was far too high so basically trying to make my job bigger! I wanted the undercabinet outlet in two areas where I very rarely plug things in, and when I do it is temporary only. Undercabinet lighting is definitely in the plan. I’m looking at maybe Dals Powerled linear or Good Earth premium slim Led bars. I will definitely look up Luton products. Thanks....See Morebeaglesdoitbetter1
