counter height island stool... champagne taste on a beer budget!
Comments (23)Sherilynn, that would be supremely helpful!! (not that I was ever going to get them, but it does make walking away easier). I am thinking of some pottery barn stools, either the Tibetan ones mentioned above (which look identical to the ones on Overstock and cheaper at Overstock, so I'd get them there) or the Megan stool. I think the point of a false sense of security with little kids and a stool with a back is a good one... also, a backless stool is going to be better for me so that I can tuck them under the counter as the spot for the stools is a little bit of a busy passageway. AND the backless stools aren't as wide which is also good for me. THANKS!! ps: I like the stool with the piping. I figured I could get an extra slipcover or two (still a lot less $$ than springing for the Moser stools) so that when the kids spill I can change it out. I have found that the straw seats aren't good for us... my 2 year old spills his milk while eating his cereal and so it isn't very easy to clean it out of straw (yuck!). probably wood would be the best for cleaning, but those megan stools look really comfy. Comments (2)We have our island at 33" and use 24"/counter height stools with no problem. I had to go check about the crossing the legs. Our wood countertop on the island is about 3 1/2" thick, so with that space lost, I can't cross my legs at the knee. I must not miss it, because I haven't noticed being uncomfortable there. Here is an old photo...Any pictures with the room finished to the extent it is now don't seem to show the stools....See MoreAny photos of staggered height wall cabinets that extend lower?
Comments (23)We are exploring another option- seeing as there are some challenges to making a pantry in the kitchen itself happen, we are crossing our fingers that we can "borrow space" from the laundry closet area, which is opposite of the kitchen (near the opening of the "U"). The only problem is that there is a hot water heater that needs access so we will see if our contractor can come up with a clever idea how to manage that. There is a good 3 feet of space next to the washer and dryer between it and the hot water heater where we could have either a pantry closet made of walls and shelves or a pantry cabinet inserted into the space. We would have to re-wall in the present door opening and get smaller doors to fit another pantry door next to it, but I think it can be done if we can figure out how to not hide the hot water heater or at least have access to it if repairs or replacement is needed. If that is impossible we are back at square one and fitting a pantry into the kitchen proper- hopefully I will get measurements soon so I don't have to guess dimensions based on tile size, etc :-)...See Morelowering kitchen island -good or bad idea?
Comments (18)Hi everybody, Thank you once again for your responses. Trifecta, thanks for reassuring me. The way you explained is exactly what I have in my head. I also asked for push doors. I like that it would look like there are no doors under the overhang. Still trying to figure out if 15 “ cabinets are possible because of pocket doors, but now I am leaning towards using this space to make me a little desk on that side instead. I read that command centres are not popular anymore but I just don’t know how to run my household otherwise. I am thinking of putting a console table with family calendar above it ( I saw really cute glass ones on Etsy that have that minimalist look but get the job done). Console table would have drawers (for pens, check books, flashlight, batteries, Misc. I am hoping if I have a dedicated junk drawer it would limit junk in the rest of the kitchen) and a shelf just off the floor where I can put baskets or large bins for kids to drop off their backpacks, lunch boxes, etc. Kids will have their own rooms with proper desks and everything they need to do their homework there but I am sure they will end up in the kitchen anyways. I am reserving 2 drawers in my kitchen cabinets for their school supplies. :) My daughter just started kindergarten and already her homework is always on my kitchen island.... sigh...See More- 11 years ago
