F&B users---coverage question

We're starting to look at cabinet paints, and really liking the Farrow & Ball option because it seems to be a well-respected cabinet paint that's also zero VOC, unlike the BM options for cabinets. I'm trying to get a handle on just how much more than BM it will run us, though. The brochure claims 425 square feet of coverage per gallon...how real is that? And if you painted your own cabinets or happen to know how your cabinetmaker did it, how many coats did you use? (I'm thinking one of primer and two of the paint...we won't be doing the painting, but would supply the paint to our cabinetmaker since it's not a brand he normally works with, so I'd want to know how much to give him.) Thanks!

I've done two places plus kitchen cabinets, all with F&B. It covers really well. You can save some by using Fresh Start primer vs F&B. Then we gave everything 2 coats -- you get a lot of color depth that way plus the good surfaces. Cabinets are about a year old and holding up perfectly.

Their gallons seem to go a long way because it is very thick -- much thicker than other paints. It has an almost puddinglike texture.

Some painters don't want to stir it completely and they want to thin it down -- there are thinning guidelines but I don't like to thin it because the thicker paint gives the walls a velvety texture (in the estate emulsion). The stirring is really essential -- until it's completely smooth and even in color (it has more than the usual number of pigments, sometimes by double depending on the color and they can settle out.)
Our regular painter likes it a lot -- it dries very quickly so he can get two coats on in the same day if necessary (though I wouldn't rush woodwork).

The contractor who painted our apartment ordered what they needed and I had a lot left over. Like several gallons. So I'd go by the F&B coverage estimates -- depends if you can get more easily or need to wait for delivery.

whatever I find it interesting that dealer plans to upgrade sizes but you have said nothing about whether ductwork system b oth supply and return has been inspected thoroughly to see if it can handle additional CFMs. Just as important as size of systems. what size heat strip for each system? here are the numbers. If you don't use any of these services I'm sure they can be confusing. In the 50's my parents didn't understand why I walked around with a 'transistor radio' held up to my ear! Twitter is often used by groups of friends to keep track of what they are currently doing. A message like "Headed to coffee shop on main street" is an invitation to your friends to join you there. In my weight watchers meetings a group has gotten together to exercise and walk together. "Walking tomorrow morning from Blanchard Park parking lot - 7am" or "at the court, anyone want to play tennis?". Another friend is part of a birdwatch group and left work early on Friday because she received "SwallowTail Kite by Waterford Lakes!". Casey is obviously using it in other ways as well, to connect with other photographers. I hadn't thought of it as a tool for that. For job hunters, there's another great site called Linked In. If you haven't checked that out you should! Especially for upper level jobs companies are checking out references at LinkedIn.com. Kate

Awwwww - group hug : ) I've got the first coat dried on the boards, and I'll put the second coat on this evening. I'm leaning toward one of the F&Bs I *didn't* get, actually...it's probably the dead-on match for mine, and I'm curious to get a sample to see how the F&B formula makes it behave differently from mine. I'll cover a portion of some of the wall that will be demo'd with some primer, then put the F&B on next to mine. I'll take some pics then. btw, the colors I have are Pigeon (the front-runner, although Blue Gray is the one that's closest to Mine, so it's actually the most possible) and Hampstead White. I don't love Hampstead White for this application. The bathroom will be with modern walnut cabinetry, natural satin finish, and labradorite granite with big gorgeous inclusions : ) I'm still not set on tile...probably something golden and simple since I want it to match the rest of the 1st floor. And the room will be *bigger* -- we're taking out a weird inwards-divot that goes nowhere. The paint itself is really interesting. I don't get any feeling of anything being put in to make it flow...even this emulsion feels a bit chalky in the application. Can't imagine what the estate and the dead flat feel like. Has anyone used dead flat?
