Support for granite overhang

Has anybody ever had an issue with insufficient support for their granite overhang?

Our breakfast bar will have a 9" overhang (shallower than what I would like, but we're striving to conserve space, so we had to compromise), and the cabinets vendor doesn't seem to have confidence in the corbels that she sells. She is encouraging us to buy brackets elsewhere, which her guys will install.

I'm considering some L-shaped gusset-less brackets that will be concealed by the cabinet panels, reinforced with one wrought iron bracket (w/gusset) at each end. (The bar is 84" long.) I'm waiting to hear back from her and my GC to see if this will work in my kitchen.

But I was wondering if anyone has actually had their granite countertop overhang tilt/topple/break on them? I think that would horrify me!

Thanks!
