Quartz that resembles marble?

In the new house we are building, we have a fairly large kitchen with an island. After vacillating back and forth between granite, soapstone, quartz, even tile for a day or two, it is finally beginning to look like we're going to go for soapstone on the island and quartz on the perimeter counters. I know, some GWebbers advise against this combo, saying "natural with man-made, not a good look" or "real stone with soft look with engineered with plastic look, no good" etc. etc. But for many reasons, I am moving in this direction anyway. So! In your opinion, what is the quartz that most resembles marble? I want a neutral, off-white surface so that the soapstone will be the highlight and the other counters will be pretty but fade into background. Off-white cabinets, hardwood floors (medium brown, not light, not dark). Traditional look. Thanks for any advice.

You could look into Okite which has been mentioned in this forum. They have a Venati Collection which has a Bianco Carrara that resembles marble. You can call them in Texas and they will send you samples. Look on the web at www.okite.com.

Well Christopher Peacock used Caesarstone in Misty Carrara in the "Kitchen of the Year" at Rockefeller Center. He use it on ALL the countertops though.

I think that if you want to combine something with Quartz go for something very different like wood -- not another hard material.

We just installed a marble countertop in our bathroom and I posted this question in the Bathroom Forum and someone suggested I try the Kitchen Forum too. We are not sure what to clean it with that will be sanitary but will not etch it. Any experience with Zep or any other recommendations?

The cost per square foot wholesale has the same relationship to you as knowing what the meat wholesaler charges the restaurant for the filet that you want for dinner. The important thing is how well the chef prepares that filet. All you really want to judge is that final bill, and what it covers. If the steamed broccoli is a side, or included with the meal is irrelevant if one restaurant is known for serving shoe leather. Any prices in this thread are going to be completely irrelevant starting right about now. Expect a minimum 15% price increase, due to the tariffs. Some will have more than a 15% increase, as the labor of stone fabrication has stayed fairly stagnant now for over 10 years, and this is the time to rectify the labor market. It won’t be just quartz that is affected either. Most stone is imported. Most tile is too. Almost everything construction related is already high due to the hurricane rebuilds starting last year, and we now have another massive rebuild staring us in the face as well.

You are just replacing the doors, not the cabinet boxes, correct? If you decide to replace the cabinets -or- you can move your cabinets around, I strongly recommend moving the DW & Sink to the left and putting the drawer stack b/w the sink and corner - that would give you a really nice stretch of counter for your Prep Zone! Right now, you have very little workspace where it's needed the most - b/w your water source (the sink) and the range. You have an island? I don't see it in the pictures. And, you want to add a peninsula? You do not appear to have room for an island in your Kitchen, especially if you add a peninsula. What will the purpose of the peninsula be? Just to add seating? Unless you're moving other items, it won't add anything for the primary work zones (Prep, Cooking, Cleanup) b/c they will all be in one small corner - the corner b/w the sink and range. Regarding colors... How "white" are your cabinets? Pure white? Off white? Other? (It's hard to tell on a computer monitor as computer monitors usually do not show true colors.) I would be careful that you don't get a counter or backsplash that makes the cabinets look "dirty" or brings out undertones of yellow or blue - unless that's what you're going for. There's a thread right now from someone who thinks her cabinets look yellow b/c of her backsplash and counter. Can you hold off selecting a counter for now? If so, then I suggest you wait until you have your new doors in and you've re-painted your boxes (assuming you're keep them). I would also paint the walls and refinish the floors. Once you've done all that, I would then bring home some large samples of both your backsplash and counter choices to compare - materials can look different depending on several things such as the angle (horizontal for counter, vertical for backsplash), wall color, cabinet color, flooring, and even lighting - both daylight and artificial light. (If you're keeping your cabinet boxes, you may have to paint them to match the doors - I doubt you'll get a perfect match to your current boxes.) Personally, I've always liked darker counters with white cabinets, but that's my preference, not yours. sorry for the bad pic of steel grey leather finish but it looks much different than the polished finish. Black pearl is a different granite and not an "aka"with a bit more warmth. IMHO both of these look much better leathered. Both finishes are super durable (Black Pearl and steel grey granites) specifically. The other pic here is a Soapstone look alike quartz in suede by Cosentino

Caesarstone has several very pretty off-white neutral colors. Jerusalem Sand looks like limestone. They also had 2 or 3 others that sound like the look your going for. We are contemplating granite and caesartstone. Good luck!

I agree with christen, Jerusalem Sand is gorgeous! Depending upon the color of your cabinets and floors, it could look stunning paired with soapstone.

Try looking at Luce di Luna Quartzite. I have friends that have used it in their kitchens and love it. I'm considering it for mine too. Passed stain tests beautifully.

Oh man, that Luce is gorgeous. Wish I'd seen that when we were picking out our counter top. That may just have to find a home in one of our bathrooms.

It really is gorgeous. Some of the slabs I looked at had creams, whites, greys, greens and some blacks. Just beautiful. I just hope I can afford it.

That quartzite slab is gorgeous! Pardon my ignorance, but what IS quartzite? I am assuming it's not granite and not marble. Is it comparable in price to these stones and soapstone? guess I'll go do a GW search for it and see what I can learn; that's better than Googling!

"Natural quartz is an extremely hard and dense material that can usually deal with high temperatures and pressures without damage. The surface of natural quarried quartz can be incredibly smooth, making it highly desirable for countertop use. Quartz is also just as strong as both granite and marble due to its tough internal structure. It is also far less porous than both of these surfaces, meaning less fear of stains permanently damaging the surface."

I have the zodiaq Okite in a dark dark brown (not what you're looking for) but it also comes like carrera...

I have to say that this Luce is amazing! Does it stain like marble?

I tested my sample of quartzite with lemon juice,lemonade, ketchup, black sharpie, and blue food coloring. Left all of them on over night and it all came off. I did seal it first though. No etching and no staining. I was very impressed.

Stone Source was very expensive...probably about $150 sf. But she told me if I got another fabricator it would be a lot less.

There is a natural (rather than manmade) quartzite that resembles marble and is harder than marble and granite. It is gorgeous and it came in second to my Yellow River granite. Price was also a bit cheaper than my granite by $2.00 a foot.
