Quartz counter tops
Comments (49)We've only had our Cambria quartz counter top for about 1 month and I LOVE it!! I did want more of a shine but find it is not very shiney at all : ( But is sounds like more prefer the less shinier type. Around here the popular ones are Oxford, Nottingham and Victoria from what the dealer told me. I like them too and thought that one of those would be my choice but ended up choosing the new Cranbrook Quarry series just because it went better with the cabinets. Preston and Brownhill were also very nice. I was able to take the small 4"x4" sample home for a few days to decide. I can barely see the seem and love how it cleans. Haven't put anything REALLY hot on it, like a slow cooker, and probably won't just because I'm scared to LOL. Here are some pics.......total cost $5700 (install & tax)...See MoreQuartz counter top questions
Comments (35)When people say that quartz looks like "fake" stone it always makes me scratch my head. For me, I love it because it is clean and uniform--if I wanted "real" stone with the variability that comes with real stone, I'd choose granite or marble. Saying it looks like fake stone is like saying that cork looks like fake wood. Two very different materials, two very different looks. Neither one is better--it's what style you prefer. Exactly! But I have found that many people try to sell quartz counters saying they look like granite but are better/easier/tougher (which I think has already been addressed above). Some of their colours do appear to be in fact imitating the look of real stone. I don't think they do well at that, but I totally agree with you that it's a great choice if you want a uniform or clean look or their vibrant colours....See MoreCost comparison: granite vs. quartz countertops
Comments (18)"Quartz and man made stones are now more expensive because of demand." Not always... Some exotic granite slabs can cost more than quartz. Granite prices vary because you have cheap china slabs to mid grade to exotic.. But popular/overused low to mid grade granite is typically cheaper than quartz. I agree that Quartz is popular right now and demand is driving prices up. When I was searching years back, I saw a blue granite slab with big swirls in it - 7k a slab......See MoreQuartz countertop cost - fabrication AND installation costs
Comments (6)It's hard for any of us outside of your area to compare costs. Fabricators often stock certain colors that will give you the best value. Freight can alter those prices too. However here is what my price for 62SF would be.... If my fabricator does not stock a color (ie Caesarstone Nougat), he will quote it slab+fab and the price goes up and you pay for waste. Use it or lose it. Your price does not seem that bad to me...for a potentially non stock color in a high rent area. Caesarstone is a tad higher than Viatera, Hanstone and others in my neck of the woods. Your area could be different as Caesarstone is much more poplar on the East/West coasts. So here is my costFor a mid-price stock color with 2 sink cutouts, a cooktop cutout, template, delivery and install, from me in Ohio would be between $5100 to $5500. I don't know what Caesarstone Nougat would be, but I would bet it's quite a bit higher. $3000 price difference could account for a non-stock special order color and your area. Also if access to building (ie stairs, elevator) is difficult, that could add. Also some fabricators are now adding carrying charges for tops over a certain square footage (ie a large island) since they sometimes need to hire an extra person on the installation job. One more thing....you are ordering through a general contractor. He must oversee this and is taking on some of the liability. I'm sure there is a bit in there for him and his time. Hope this helps. Ps. I have a Home Depot quote from one of my clients that has about 62SF for Calacutta Gold and it was almost $6000....See MoreUser
