I found this kitchen last night while pouring through design blogs. I haven't been this inspired and in love with a kitchen since I found my inspiration kitchen YEARS ago! This one is getting tucked away for the next house...

''John-the pots make tons more sense there. I was wanting a small pot rack close to the wall to the left of the range hood (for maybe 3 skillets). Would I regret open shelving in (base cabinet) to left of range for pots (a la the Julia Child kitchen)? I wouldn't have to deal with clearance for a cabinet door in that smaller space then. But from the standpoint of funkiness and clutter?'' I think open shelves in the base cabinet to the left of the Lacanche would be hard to get to, because you'd be squatting in a small space (between that cab and the Hoosier-thingy, whatever that is). Drawers would probably be easier to work with, I think. Also you might want a shallow drawer in that base cab for utensils, and maybe even a sturdy pull-out board for more workspace. Because of the tight quarters, I think storing stuff up high would also be useful. Pot racks flanking the Lacanche's vent hood, for instance. You will, naturally, buy a whole set of thick French copper saucepans to feed the Lacanche, and those would look very nice, hanging. I still think a small prep sink near the range would be helpful, to save you from having to lug an 11-quart copper stockpot full of boiling liquid to the main sink. What do you think about fitting such a sink in the narrow base cab that will be to the right of the range? Then maybe drawers under the sink, for oils, spices, and other stuff that you would want close at hand when cooking. I was thinking about your layout, and realized that because you have a sizeable pantry room, the limited storage in the kitchen itself might be workable. Over on the sink wall, seems you could put glassware and dishware in the shallow tall cabinet where they'd be close to the dishwasher (make sure your dishes are not too large), flatware and prep supplies and mixer in and on the 58'' cabinet to the left of the sink. Don't forget the microwave needs a home too. You might also plan on trying a small (2' x 3', say) worktable in the center of the kitchen. If the clearances work, great. If not, it becomes a potting bench or something. One other thing - you were talking about about the view into the kitchen from the rest of the house - which suggests a sink/window that is eye-catching and beautiful? Maybe plan on later installing a large apron-front or freestanding sink - something visually striking? (Shame the window is there, or you could place the Lacanche on the sink wall, splendidly on display.)

Rexem, Thanks for posting your pictures. It's so great to see how you used the color in your space. I'm definitely getting more ideas... I went to see my range this week. It's in overall good condition and should be usable after a good cleaning. I even get the bonus of double kettles for the thermowell and possibly the thermo eye. There were some extra burner parts in a box, I think that's what it is. I've ordered up re-prints of the manuals, so this should shed some light on this. I'm going to need to find the 2nd hand from the left, and the handle on the service cabinet. I'm heading on vacation today, so I couldn't bring her home, but when we get back we're picking her up. Our vacation is taking us back home, to CA. I know there are several antique stove places there, so I'm trying to see if I can make a jaunt to one of them. Thanks for the help on the colors. I'm still on the fence with colors and the "decor". I'm glad that you found a color that matches. Even if I don't use that paint, I can use the color swatch when coordinating other elements. I was on the fence about the range hood. I was seriously considering the slightly smaller Ventahood classic as the size would have been better suited to my space, but in the end I opted for a SS hood from Overstock. Price was my single motivating factor. It was less than half the price of the classic in white, not even counting the upcharge for the custom paint. I've spoken to a place locally and am going to see if I can have my hood powder coated to match. If not, I'll probably live with it for a while and see about upgrading down the road. I envy your pantry. I really love your herb and spice bottles. Where did you find those? BeckySharp, Thanks for the heads up on the Chirp china. Very cute. Thanks so much for posting this. I learned a lot from it. I especially loved that the owner came by it all honestly, i.e. she has loved mcm since her teenage years, which is probably before its resurgence to popularity. She's done her homework, too, to be sure, not just flipped through the DWR catalog. LOVE that :)

scrappy25 -- the window came as a single piece, so I assume that's a triple casement? The cost for just the window was around 3,000. But of course, there was a fair amount of construction to open the wall, fix the brick, put a steel beam in to support the wall over the window, build out the window box, insulate the window box, and put a little roof on the window box... Those expenses I'm not sure about, and in any case, they'd depend a lot on where you live, how much your contractor charges, whether you're doing it yourselves, etc. Oh, and the wand is specific for Marvin windows, but the company that makes it has heads for other brands of windows too. I'm glad you like the window - it was a big splurge, but it makes me happy every day! andreak100 -- thanks for the nice comments about my kitchen -- I know white kitchens don't appeal to everyone :-) Here are the measurements: over the refrigerator, the cabinets are 13.5"; over the counter, the cabinets are 40"; over the microwave, the cabinets are 25.25". (Just as a side note, our fridge is unusually tall.) The opening for the microwave is 15" tall. deedles -- thanks! That's a strange photo: the wood thing that looks like a rug is actually the end of the kitchen table. Some kind of optical illusion there!

Speaking of drool-worthy, I'm waiting to see your kitchen, Amberley! Have I missed any progress photos? Sorry to be OT. ;-)

OMG...hee hee...I'm feeling kinda cool for doing stainless countertops w/ marble subway tile at this very moment. ;) That said, it's nothing like this guy's kitchen and all its way coolness. The only part I don't like is the gigantic light. I know that's the trend but I don't get it. They make kitchens look smaller and when I see lights that big I feel like I've journeyed to the center of the earth where the fly resting on it should be the size of a small bird, or a tomato on the counter should be the size of a cantaloup!

I love that floor and I love the wine rack/bookshelf/desk combo w/ that beautiful bench, too. And I love the old farm table in the middle instead of the typical island. That's kinda nice to see after all this time. I always love it when people add medium-colored wood into a kitchen that has either a lot of white, black, both or gray. If I had more space I'd have a normal table too (much more relaxing to sit at) but not only do I not have enough floor space for anything that big, but I need all the space underneath it to be used for storage, too.

I'm not usually a big fan of black and white kitchens. Usually it's because of the stark white chosen, or a high contrast black and white check floor, but this is lovely. I like the tiles done in a pinwheel(?) pattern.

I have to agree about the light theresse, it almost seems like the mad hatters hat. A tad too overscale. Maybe it's just me, I'm petite, which is a cute French way of saying really short in American, so a latern like this might be a bit scary. Of course, I was born and raised in earthquake country so I worry about weird things like that.

Now I've need to get my mop... ; )

rhome and prill- I did post a link on the Amberley? post to my photobucket account- the pics are about 6 weeks old. I sm STILL painting (starting again in a few minutes...) and I still have the cab doors to put on, and the closet shelves, and chickenwire doors. Please be patient with me :), it is has been pretty hard on me physically, and I have to be careful to pace myself.

I will probably not post any more pics until after I am pretty much done and do my reveal post.
