We paid approx $40 per sqft because there was a special going on at Ikea. It is Rain Cloud, which is one of the more expensive ones. We didn't get anything free added in, but we went with a simple eased edge and did not need lots of fancy cut outs, seams or corners, so we also did not have much to mark it up either. We did 17 linear feet, plus had a 1.5 foot ledge on our 9 foot island that also came down the sides (our only seams are where the ledge changes direction). All told it came to just over $2k.

I know this is about solid surfaces, not stone, BUT Home Depot (in my area, dunno about other stores) is offering 4 different granites (admittedly not particularly stunning ones) for $35 per sq ft. We got quartz for $44 per sq ft plus a free sink.

It might be worth it to go through another brand of solid surfaces, for example, LG HiMacs or similar. Corian, in my opinion, is somewhat overpriced and many of the nicer colors reach or exceed the price of stone (assuming stone is something you want).

Remnants! They can be very inexpensive for what you get. Works well provided you do not need a large area covered by one stone.

Dianalo, you mentioned your great deal in another thread which got me to wondering how cheap I could get it for around here. I saw your raincloud in RL. I thought it was quite pretty!

Maybeiloveyou, I realize that there are inexpensive granites, but we want something ultra simple since we are going modern. If we went quartz we wanted a white or very basic pattern which is around $70/sq foot. We'd also have to have 2 seams and I haven't been happy with any of the quartz seams I've seen thus far.

Raro, as I said above we will have to have seams. One of the pieces will be 4' x 10' and the other countertop will be over 14' long. Translation remnants will not cut it.

The cheapest I've seen it for so far is at IKEA. They have it $35 with 10% off which would make it $31.50/sq ft. I didn't have a chance to see if there was anything over and above that. Since they run this frequently and Dianlo got 40% off, I was thinking I could save yet more, somewhere, somehow.

My 40% off worked out to approx $40 a sqft! Your Ikea is cheaper than mine was! We are in NY so are used to lots of mark ups, but I am surprised there is such a difference with Ikea counters too. It must be because the fabricators probably charge more for the labor here and the price includes fabrication... We have higher gas costs, insurance, heating, cooling, storage, etc... so the business costs are higher and that gets passed to the consumer.

We could have done their granite choices for cheaper, but we weren't in love with those and dh fell hard for the RC at first sight.... My other choice was not carried by Ikea, so the RC was the obvious pick for us.

Dianalo, you got got an unbelievable price! What we are looking at is the solid white which is in the "A" group. I think your raincloud was in the "E" grouping which was substantially higher in cost. I'm hoping I can bring them down further in price like you did but I realize that though our materials would be cheaper, there is the issue of labor.
