In my world, you can never have too many cabinets.

I wouldn't call your stove area "congested" so much as kind of squished in the corner. It looks like 30"? 36" in the same position would feel less squished, as would the 30" moved over at least 6". Any chance you'd want to put in a spice pullout or something next to the corner?

It does look squished though I don't think you need to slide it over very much to make a noticeable improvement.

I like garbage by the sink so I'd flip your silverware/tupper/towel drawers with the garbage drawer. Silverware would be adjacent the DW and closer to dining area. We did garbage pullout, sink, DW, dish drawer all in a line for mad assembly-line style cleaning.

It looks spacious compared with ours. I assume that you are concerned with the proximity of the stove to the corner? Our stove has 21 inches on either side before our corner lazy susans begin, so we do have slightly more space there. On the left wall, we have only 12 inches of drawers before the cabinet for our fridge begins. It's not my favorite prep area, because I'm left handed and don't want to bang my elbow on the fridge. My daughter, who is right-handed, is perfectly comfortable working in that space.

I second Dyno's suggestion about moving the garbage closer to the sink by swapping your drawer stack for dishtowels, tupperware, etc so that it will be just to the right of the dishwasher.

Could you also swap your pullout that is currently to the right of the stove, over to the left of the stove? Or would that squish the space between the stove and the sink too close together? You have a nice expansive prep space on the peninsula to the right of the sink.

I don't know how much flexibility there is in relocating the stove and its vent overhead. But I'd explore that, so that you could have two cooks prepping at the same time -- one working to the left of the stove, and one working on the peninsula.

I'm far from an expert, but some parts of my layout are similar to yours, so here goes. I have a 36" susan to the left of my 30" range. Is yours a 36" or smaller? I would not want a smaller one for both the cramped feeling of the range being too close to the corner and for access into the susan cabinet. My susan next to my range opens the opposite direction as yours (the hinges are on the other side of the cabinet). My range sticks out an inch or two from the front edge of the cabinets and my susan door would not open very far if I had it hinged like yours shows.

I have my trash at the end of my peninsula like yours is, but my sink cabinet is right in the corner and my DW is to the left of the sink, so the layout is not identical to yours. I also think your peninsula might be a little longer than mine. We really like the trash location because someone throwing trash or recyclables doesn't have to come into the kitchen very far to toss them. But if my peninsula were much longer, it wouldn't work well for the person cleaning at the sink. My peninsula is 6 feet long from the wall to the end.

Are you sure that you want a corner susan to the right of the sink? We put a 24" cabinet at the wall end of the peninsula facing away from the kitchen, which is a common solution. The corner susans are very expensive, but maybe not more than a 24" cab + 2 x 12" cabs. But, if you do what I suggested, you might be able to rearrange things so that you can get some bigger cabinets - I would want more and wider drawers.

You have two sections of "extra" counter - the peninsula and the part between the ref and the pantry. The part between the ref and the pantry is predestined to become a junque pile-up.

The corner near the range is another trouble spot because both the range and the ovens open into the same spot - where you would be - and the ovens also make a cave out of that corner.

If you moved the ovens over to between the ref and pantry, you could use the peninsula surface for baking. Maybe use the extra space on the ref wall either for even more pantry or an intentional dish hutch.

I hate to say this, but I would try no cabinets on the laundry room wall and extending the counter between the range and the sink - by not using a corner cabinet (do the cabinet pointing towards the dining area), then maybe a 15" drawers, a 36" sink base, another 15" drawer base and a 30" pots and pans drawer base, the range, then a 36" pots and pans base. The distance between the sink and range becomes 45" - nice sized for prep. You could get another 6" by using a 30" p&p beyond the range for a nice 51" between the sink and range for most prep.

The small bit of wall between the kitchen and laundry is a good candidate for some between the stud storage.

Adding dish storage on the ref wall means you can lose some of those uppers - thinking the one over the peninsula is a good candidate for the ax!

dyno -I like the idea of moving garbage can closer to sink, leaving silverware closer to dining room. My KD really thinks it needs to be at the peninsula. I've tried to get her to move it - she disagrees.

bmorepanic - You are absolutely right about the counter between the fridge and pantry being a junk pile up area. That's exactly what will happen (that's what happens now)
So you are suggesting putting the fridge and ovens on that wall and another pantry or dish hutch. Do you mean a solid wall with out any counter at all? I have to wrap my head around that one. It's a little nerve wracking thinking about not having counter there, but we do have the peninsula. Right now we have counter and it's a junk collector as it is, but we also have the use of the counter as a separate serving area when we have company.

I'm ok without cabinets on the laundry room wall. I can go with out lazy Susan on either end, especially by adding storage on to the refrigerator wall. I don't see how the math adds up. I have about 180 inches to work with on the wall with the stove and sink. I'm unsure as to how much wall space the cabinet facing the dining room takes up. Also not sure what you mean by 30" p&p - what's that? and between the stud storage. Do you mean shelving? This is all good stuff to think about - that's why I love these forums.
