Best Edge for Marble Countertops

We're thinking of putting in marble countertops and I'm trying to figure out what the best edge is. It looks like most people have a squared edge -- is this a true squared edge or is it beveled a bit? I'd rather avoid a full bullnose, but am worried about chipping if the edge is square.

Ditto ditto :oP I have eased edges on the kitchen, and a very fancy tripple double overhang ogie wogie swoop miester going into my master bath (I always forget the name). My kitchen has a shaker style cabinet, so the eased edge flows well. It also has a modified marine edge SS countertop, and I don't think they'd do a fancy oge if their life depended on it :) So flow and style were the main considerations.

In the master bath, the cabinets are much fancier, as well in DS bathroom, so I did a couple of different fancy edges. They're all sturdy :) Just different based on room style and cabinet style.

I am doing an eased edge on my honed calcutta and will post pictures when they are installed. Here is a link to a blog with a lot of marble topped counter examples that I used for inspiration.

there's no 'best'. it depends on the style of the kitchen that you're putting it into, and, of course, your personal preference.

Absolutely! The place is called Rugo. If I look around I can probably find the card of the guy we dealt with there, whose name was Gus. As I recall, they either had no weekend hours or they were very limited, but we were able to call and set up evening hours during the week to come look at the stone. They were very nice to deal with, and had an incredible selection of all different types of marble. If I ever figure out how to post pictures, I could show you some. They had slabs outdoors, in a warehouse, and I think there was another warehouse nearby as well. I found it so refreshing because usually we would go to places that had 999 slabs of granite and 1 slab of marble to choose from. This one had almost all marble. The only other stone I remember seeing there was soapstone. Having said all this, unfortunately I could not find the white carrara I wanted there. What they had was more spotted than veined. It looked like a dalmation to me! I ended up finding the right slabs elsewhere, but was kind of sorry I couldn't find it at the place that loved marble so much. It was also the only place I ever went that did not try to tell us we shouldn't use marble in the kitchen :) I think they also do marble work on some of the monuments and public buildings in DC. Anyway, good luck. If Rugo doesn't work for you, I'll be happy to share with you the places we went in Maryland too.

Do a search on Danby marble, it is supposed to be one of the most durable marbles. There are a lot of us here who have marble and love it! Mine is polished Calacatta and we are looking forward to it gaining patina over the years. There is a wealth of information on here already about the white marbles. Could I ask what problem are you trying to solve? Is this by a sink? Do you need a drain board for air drying dishes? Do you have kids or spouse who spill water everywhere? Is water splashing out of the sink onto the counter? Are you replacing the sink/countertop or has the granite already installed and you are trying to retrofit something?

Mine's a deep ogee in the kitchen. Easy to keep clean. I thought the edge fit the style of my kitchen.

I have a duPont in the master bath. I love that look, but some people fear the "inner corner" of the duPont would collect dirt and grime in a kitchen. It's fine in the bathroom...I don't really think it would be all that bad in the kitchen.

Ok, I guess I wanted to make sure there wasn't an edge I definitely should NOT get since I've read that marble is softer than granite and more prone to chipping.

Any edge would be fine on the marble. I guess with the deep ogee that I have, it would be possible. if I hit it really hard...say I was just off in distance and hurrying when trying to put a pot in the dishwasher...I guess I could bang the edge hard enough at the right angle to crack it...but I've never come close to such a *freak* accident. Thankfully!!

I think the squared edge is probably the first that comes to most minds when they think of marble. It's the classic edge. but, really, whatever fits your kitchen style. Good luck!

I don't have marble but I had heard the most chip resistant on the granite was a rounded edge like bullnose. I don't like the bullnose personally so we opted to a crescent edge on our perimeter counter. Our island is always being hit by our metal swival stools so we did a chiseled egde there so it does not matter if they get chipped.
