putting super susan next to range?

My plan has a 36" Super Susan next to the slide-in range. The KD says that it will be too tight a space, since the range will be bigger than a flush cabinet, and she says I need to either switch out the SS or add a filler/ cab between them.

Does anyone have a SS cabinet next to a range? Is it too tight a space?

Yes, I have a Super Susan right next to my range without any problem. Mine has a hinged pull-out door. You can see pictures on my home page.

Are you planning the hinges on the range side? I think that would be the only way there'd be a problem. If it will be full of things you'll use at the range, you'll want the hinges on the other side anyway?

That is a dilemma! Crap, this stuff is hard! Since every manufacturer varies in how much useable space there is with their SS, it would really help if you could get some specs at least, and then mock it up with cardboard. I have 2 36" lazy susans (one with no innards yet, and one with the standard chrome rack with centre pole which has already gone wonky in a few months of very light use). Will it affect the size of the opening. I like mine, I can maneuver bread makers, etc with ease (my apppliances are in the 'empty' LS, not on the chrome rack- it's tippy just with very light potato chips/noodles on it) I have pics of SS in my files, and each one is different. some utilize every inch of space- ie the radius of the circle is maxed to the very edge of the cupboard, some have 1-3" of space wasted, so again, if you could get specs and info on the actual turntable that would help. this one seems to use ALL available space This one seems to waste space around the circumference

Thanks for the responses. Eastbaymom, your hinged door was what I was thinking of---a door that has a portion on each of the sides of the corner. Could you tell me what is the length of your cabinet along the back walls of the corner? Is it symmetrical along each wall? One leg of DD's U-shape kitchen is only 82" long and the other is only 93" with a 14 foot run with a window in between. With this limited space to work with she is really concerned about eating up too much of it on corner cabinets that extend so far down each wall that she won't be able to fit in a bank of drawers anywhere. Hellonasty, I can't picture the type of doors you have. Do you have one on each side of the corner and do they fold back very flat against the next cabinet? That might eliminate the problem of having hinges sticking out but it sounds like a custom cabinet. Jeanar's kitchen in the FKB seems to have an upper cabinet similar to what you are describing. If you have a chance to take a look at it (don't know how to do a link)let me know. Thanks.

I have a 3" pullout filler between my corner cabinet and 30" rangetop cabinet. Kompy is correct, the pullout is designed to be installed between two full cabinets; the curved wall of the corner cabinet leaves about 12" of open space beside the pullout, from mid-point to rear wall. We fixed this by having a piece of panelling cut to fit there and nailed to the pullout's outer frame during installation. If this isn't done, items can fall out of the racks into the abyss between pullout and corner. Here are pics of what the setup looks like. We are, obviously, in the middle of all of this, and doors have been removed for finishing. Granite was installed two days ago, and the large piece with the sink cutout was cracked, so it's not there. Cooktop cutout has not been done yet. Measurements from left to right are 15" base, 30" cooktop base, 3" pullout, 36" easy-reach base, if that helps any. :)

A friend has one with a regular (freestanding) range, with no issues, but she has a slight gap between the cab and the range. After seeing this in person, I felt okay with doing one myself. One caveat... I have a 2" filler strip between to allow for clearance for my slide-in range. I've gotten used to opening it by pulling the first side back first, then opening it up fully... my family doesn't do that as well as me but I don't keep stuff in there that they get into very much! I agree with the poster above... have it open with the hinge opposite the range, and I would advise the 2-part hinge opening, rather than a true angled door.

The only thing I can think of is that in order to get the swing away, since the hinge is in the middle, is that it needs to swing out a little and it wouldn't have clearance? I dunno. She said that they have a display where she could show me..

Yes, the door opens on the range and then pulls away. My range sticks out beyond the cabinets but that doesn't pose any problem. It starts out opening just like any cabinet door - no clearance issue at all.

I too have a lazy susan in the corner right next to my slide-in range. A KD/cabinet guy also tried to tell me I couldn't have one there because there wouldn't be enough room. I didn't listen to him (or hire him) and I put one there anyway. It fits fine and I have plenty of room. My doors are not hinged in the middle though - there are two doors, hinged on either side (inset cabs) and open in the middle. You can see pics below. In my NJ kitchen, I also have the same setup, but different type cabs. The range sticks out and the door would've hit had I hinged it on the side near the range. Instead I hinged it on the side opposite the range, and it works fine. Go ahead and get your lazy susan!

I also have my lazy susan next to my slide in range. (It is a 36" corner cabinet). As you can see in pic, it is right next to the stove- no filler. It is a two-part corner door with hinge in the middle and hinges on the opposite side of range.
As range has glass door, I am a little bit careful pulling the LS door out, but not a big deal.

I have two 36 inch super susans flanking the range. The only problem that I could foresee is that you just don't have enough space on that wall to accommodate your SS and stove, otherwise, this doesn't make sense to me.

ok, I went to the store today and tried out 2 super susans - one was next to a stove. It was a tight fit, and the SS brushed against the range when you opened it.

So, I can risk it, I can add a 1/2 - 1 inch filler, or I can add a 3" pullout and shorten up the cabinet on the other side from 18 to 15. I hate fillers. But I also don't want to lose the 18" cab.

I'm not sure what brand or style of door and hinge you are looking at but my KM super susans are mounted adjacent to my range with full overlay door and there is no rubbing whatsoever when I open it.
