Finally finished! Walnut, quartzite, idea kitchen with pics
Comments (90)I have ordered a few doors from Cabinetnow - one is the walnut one that you used - your kitchen is so rich and warm. My plans are to use the tung oil as you have as I can see why you are so pleased with the results. But.. I am back to "stupidity". I "get" the bases. You buy the frame (and hinges too I guess from what I have seen) from Ikea and the doors from Cabinetnow. Makes sense to me. But... If you have a frame for the lower base, how do you get the drawer boxes without drawer boxes fronts - since I will be also ordering these from Cabinetnow? I have been all over the site and I am just not seeing it. For those of you who have done this, please just point me in the right direction. TY...See MoreKitchen in progress with PICS**finally!
Comments (18)Kat3kits....oh yes! Claustrophobic doesn't even begin to describe! We have only lived here since April, but not only did that layout not work for our daily cooking, it was an Entertainment nightmare. We had to have 2 dinner parties so I could prove to DH how bad it was! Truth be told, the cabs were 35year old solid oak (maybe ash?), Amish made, they looked brand new! Hardly looked dated at all! I am happy to report, even though I chose not to reuse them, they were all donated to others who will install them and reuse them!. The appliances were a nightmare, none worked right! So happy we spent the money and lightened up the cabs and changed the configuration. It feels like its the way the house was meant to be!...See MoreFinally Finished: Kitchen pics...
Comments (38)Beautiful! So excited for you! Last night I was reworking my floorplan and came up with the very same layout as you have on your L-shaped wall (frig & cooktop, then D/W & sink on other wall) so it was soooo exciting to see your pictures on the forum today as it confirms the direction I'm heading!! I have a U-shaped kitchen with an island so the other leg of my U will have a pantry and double ovens. Would you be willing to send me an email (click on my page) with the measurements of the following so I can verify that it'll work for my space? 1. What is measurement from L edge of frig to the sink wall? 2. What is measurement for landing area between frig & sink? 3. What is measurement for landing area R of stove to the bend in the L? What do you use the small drawer & cabinet to R of stove for? Did you have a lazy susan in the R corner? 4. I'm concerned about my frig & stove wall being too tight so wondering how yours is working for you? 5. What is measurement from wall where oven is to L edge of sink? 6. What is landing to the R of the sink? 6. How do you like microwave in your island (I'm considering that option if I don't do an over-the-range Microwave)? Thanks a bunch! Comments (26)Marthavila - I think that is the nicest thing anyone ever said about any kitchen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Dianalo and Boylanite2 - the stove is my pride and joy. This is what started the whole reno, although for a long time the Blue Star was the forerunner. Of course the hood had to follow. I have to say, I went through so many versions of tiles and marble, and backsplash patterns, and of course, I have been influenced by the white subway tile versions, until I realized that mine was not a white subway tile kitchen, no matter how much I may like the subway tile look, and then I just stumbled upon this tile at some closeout place and it turned out perfect. Andi - Travertine Mart was great to work with. Their pricing, with delivery, was so much lower than anyone local that it took everyone out of the running, and the quality is great. I have looked at lesser tiles locally that cost at least 4 times as much, and that's after you add their shipping costs. I would recommend getting liftgate delivery from them, as it's a minimal surcharge and the truck comes with a forklift to unload everything. This stuff is HEAVY and the pavers are almost twice as thick as my tiles. My tile color is country classic, which is a mix of ivory, noche and what they call blue, which is really a version of gray, in the brushed and chiseled version. It needed to be filled unlike the outdoor pavers. If you use an enhancing sealer, the color comes out brighter and the variation is more noticeable, but I wanted the floor to be the backdrop, so we just used a regular sealer that does not enhance the color. I would highly recommend them shipping costs notwithstanding. I'm already toying with the idea of using the pavers outside, although, budget constraints aside, it may be too cold here in the winter for travertine. Sayde - thank you for the kind words and for all your support throughout this process. We are all looking forward to your "unveiling"....See Moreeastbaymom
