Kitchen in progress with PICS**finally!

Finally getting around to posting pics! Have never used flicker before, not sure how to embed! So please bear with the link until I learn!! I hope it works!

End of week 5! cabs are pretty much done, granite was templated today, emprador dark marble to go around fireplace wednesday, kitchen granite install maybe next friday!!

Oh My Candy, all that snow already, poor you, I'm not ready for that at all yet, well not ever, I'm a warm climate person at heart, stuck in the midwest! LOL I love decorating the bay window, even more now that part of a sofa isn't hiding it from view. Thanks Jeanne & Luvs & Marlene, the flooring was not just the livingroom, but the diningroom, kitchen & hall. I don't know what made my DH think he could do it over a weekend! LOL He ended up taking more vacay days to get 90% done, still has lots of trim to finish up. PUNK, you actually went & listened to Dustin & Rowdy Ron, wow, that was so nice of you. I'll have to show this post to my grandson. He had talked to Rowdy Ron on the phone & was interviewed by him before the Malibu Premier, but had not met him. RR is in Florida. They did meet & ended up hanging out quite a bit in Malibu & talk about two characters together! They were so much fun together, bouncing jokes off of each other. RR & some other friends ended up in our hotel room til 3 a.m. after the premier that nite & I am surprised we did not get thrown out for all the laughing that went on in the wee hours! I'll try to get a photo of RR & Dustin from Malibu, see if Photobucket is cooperating tonite or not. Ok, PB seems to be cooperating tonite, by the way RR used to be a wrestler, can you tell?

Hi Randi! Wow, what a surprise to see this post pop back up. In fact, I have been away from here for a long time but I just noticed email this morning from your post. Thank goodness that email thing worked! The living room is Benjamin Moore Moroccan Red (1309). The dining room is Benjamin Moore York Harbor Yellow (2154-40). Hope that helps. Your cabinets are beautiful and look great so far. Really enjoying your picture progress. It looks really great. That was truly a leap of faith ordering 18 cabinets! I was terrified just ordering two. Way to go! I just received my laundry room cabinets from Barker. I am very pleased with them. We still have to put them together but we mocked them up and they are perfect. We need help pulling out the washer and dryer in a very tight space so waiting for that and then a couple of modifications for clearance of the W/D hookups and we will be ready for the counter top people. Can't wait. The hardest part for me was measuring and being sure I was ordering the right things. I guess I did it right!

Southernstitcher and mamalynn - I am thinking of adding in a strip of glass tiles into the tumbled travertine, so I might work the blue in there. happyladi - I forgot to mention that I do plan on adding hardware! I am torn about the finish, though. I chose the light fixtures before I knew I'd be getting SS appliances and now I am not in love with them and am thinking of replacing them. Not sure what finish to choose for those and the hardware, though. desertsteph - I am certain they will all be shaking their heads at us in 20 years! That silly leg wasn't even screwed in from below. It had one screw in it through the cab above it. I am 5'5" tall and there is 16" of space from the top of the counters to the bottom of the microwave. I have no trouble putting things in or taking them out. It's actually almost the same height as an OTR one would be. That shelf isn't my favorite part of the kitchen, but I'm dealing with it. Once we get a matching microwave, I think it will help more. I've also considered asking a cabinet maker friend to build a appliance garage door for it, but I'm not sure about it. patsyklein - I am really happy with that rounded edge since I was worried I'd be hitting my hip on it if it was squared off. We used Carl Beuhner Countertops in Salt Lake City for the fabrication and install. My only complaint is that the deck of the sink where the faucet is installed doesn't seem very heavy gauge. It's my fault for not asking to see the sink they agreed to provide, though. Right now the faucet can rock a bit. It's securely attached to the deck, but the deck flexes, if that makes sense.

Christine....great progress! I can't wait to see it all finished...it's going to be beautiful! Mine should be done next week.....granite was installed Wednesday and I love it! They installed new washer and dryer this afternoon and I'm doing inaugural load now...All appliances in..now I just need to go get my PhD to figure them out! Odds and ends left...some painting, knobs, moldings, lighting....will post pics soon.

Looks beautiful! Am so excited for you that everything seems to be moving along well! My cabinets are very similar so I'm looking forward to seeing your finished pics along with your countertop! We're also hoping for our countertops to be installed Friday!

Dragonfly.....was a real turning point to see granite installed....wondering if the 3 major choices....cabs, counters, floors.... would in fact work together or not....especially since I picked everything out myself...thankfully I'm loving it so far! Can't wait to see your pics as well!

Joanie, so impressed that you picked all your stuff! I have definite ideas, but have relied heavily on my KD throughout the process.....I found the tile, granite, and cab color ect.....but picked with confidence with her approval! Post some pics of your progress!

Christine, finally found MY granite today (long and involved search)! Our granite goes in Saturday, so right behind you on this. Thanks for your input on the search.

You must be thrilled to have some elbow room around your new range-to-be! The old cabinets looked nice, but having your cooktop wedged in the corner like that must have been a pain. Did you feel a bit claustrophobic in the old kitchen? The new version is a breath of fresh air...so open and pretty. Congratulations!

Kat3kits....oh yes! Claustrophobic doesn't even begin to describe! We have only lived here since April, but not only did that layout not work for our daily cooking, it was an Entertainment nightmare. We had to have 2 dinner parties so I could prove to DH how bad it was!

Truth be told, the cabs were 35year old solid oak (maybe ash?), Amish made, they looked brand new! Hardly looked dated at all! I am happy to report, even though I chose not to reuse them, they were all donated to others who will install them and reuse them!. The appliances were a nightmare, none worked right!

So happy we spent the money and lightened up the cabs and changed the configuration. It feels like its the way the house was meant to be!

Thanks CC! I really love the new layout too!

The cab color is BM oc-11 clay beige. Not sure if it looks more yellow in my pics. But it's a very neutral beige type of color. A hint of green undertone. I was staying away from yellow/pink undertones. I assume it's color is looking weird to me in pics because of the stark white primed walls!
