More progress on our Barker cherry kitchen...

We've been working on the crown molding today and it is like the frosting on a perfect coconut cake!!! Here's a few pics...

I prefer dark countertops with light cabinets. If you go with something light, you will have a monochromatic tone with the cabinets. I think something dark and rich will create a nice contrast with the cabinets and help bring out the richness of the floor. Check out some of the brown granites, like antique brown, and darker greens like Uba Tuba and Peacock green. Volga Blue is a gorgeous granite that I've seen on this site. It has black and hints of blue that are to die for! It would help to know how the adjoining room was decorated-light and airy, or darker and warmer.

Yes, that is the Barker clear finish. We had considered finishing them ourselves but when we got the finished samples and saw how flawless and tough the finish was we decided it was well worth letting them do it.

My view on the fridge location: You access it for meals and for cooking several times per day. You access it for loading groceries coming from the car a few to several times per month? And patio dining is seasonal? This makes the daily convenience more important to me...And, as Bmore pointed out, the patio door is straight out from the bfast room end of the stove wall, so to go from fridge to patio, it'd be the straightest, simplest path without going past traffic at the beverage area. When I bring groceries in, they land on the island first to be unloaded from the bags and sorted, not go straight into the fridge. If that's the case, it doesn't matter where the fridge is, as long as it's handy to the island. It'd probably mean taking a couple more steps to set them further down the island if the fridge was by the stove. I couldn't previously get a good picture in my mind of the wall vs view issue, so I've been trying to figure it out now. Do you use that entry all the time? How long is someone in that spot where it makes a difference? Does it make any difference in the view until you get past the stair walls? From the floor plan it just doesn't look like a big gain, but you are in the house and we're not. If you add 4 ft of wall/counter space, you can't help but gain 4 ft of counter in the room, so I'm confused about why you think it wouldn't help. But I think Bmore probably took care of that. Even if it didn't offer more counter (a big bonus), but just a better place for the fridge without losing counter, I'd sure want to give it some serious thought. BUT, if it's a big quality of life issue for you to see that view from that spot on the entry, it matters. We all have different priorities.

Greenhaven- 8 weeks, so not too terrible. The bathroom above is also gutted, so as long as we get that finished in time, we will be ok, I think. We can survive just using our toaster oven in the dining room if we have to! Lazygardens and live wire- you aren't kidding. Luckily we knew when we bought an almost 100 year old home that we'd be uncovering some scary things. Most of the budget will definitely be going into things you can't see, but at least we will know our house is safe and done correctly!

crl_...the only problem was we have two corner cabinets and I ordered the lazy Susan's for both from Barker. They only sent one of the lazy Susan's. I emailed Chad and he sent it and we received it within 3 days. We had 3 pallets (1,700 lbs) of cabinet pieces and parts and not one single piece was damaged...not one! I was amazed.

They are super easy to assemble...by the time we got all eighteen cabinets assembled my hubby and I could do one in about 10 minutes. We could not be more pleased with the quality of Barker. I highly recommend them!!!

That is amazing! Great job on the crown! Do you know how many pieves I would screw up before accidentally getting one right? So happy, too, to hear more praise for Barker.

Your cabinets are beautiful and look great so far. Really enjoying your picture progress. It looks really great. That was truly a leap of faith ordering 18 cabinets! I was terrified just ordering two. Way to go!

I just received my laundry room cabinets from Barker. I am very pleased with them. We still have to put them together but we mocked them up and they are perfect. We need help pulling out the washer and dryer in a very tight space so waiting for that and then a couple of modifications for clearance of the W/D hookups and we will be ready for the counter top people. Can't wait. The hardest part for me was measuring and being sure I was ordering the right things. I guess I did it right!

Oh, how beautiful! The tone of the wood is so soft and warm. The grain is subtle. Looks like you could pet them for days!
