can someone please help me ? stain on butcher block

I need some help. If I am in the wrong forum please advise.
My husband has a custom butcher block (over 500 lbs.) and today I noticed a tomato sitting there on the butcher block.
when I picked it up the bottom was black and there of course
is a black stain on the butcher block where the tomato was.
I have tried making a rub of kosher salt, lemon juice and rubbing. After that I put baking powder on the previous mix to no avail. It won't budge . is there anything else I could try? DH is out of town right now but i am going to be
in hot water for sure. this block is his pride and joy. please someone out there take pity on me!
any ideas would be appreciated!

If you google 'removing stains from burcher block' there are a number of things you can try, including what you've already done which they say to leave on overnight. There are other remedies for you to check out, too.

you might try a dab of hydrogen peroxide, watch it closely and rinse when the stain is lifted. finish with whatever oil he uses on it to restore the finish.

Grammyp, not only did you answer my question about the quilt pattern, the video had a great option of curving the middle to the inside. I was so excited after seeing the video, three year old and I went to the cloth store early this morning to select materials. We have already started. Years ago I made them and just left the middle part straight, but I love the curved look. Saw another video and it was showing how you could add another block in the center and make a faux cathedral block. What I plan to do is make this quilt with the colors we selected, and on the next one using her clothes that she has outgrown for the quilting materials. Made a quilt years ago for her mother using her clothes when she was small. I plead old age when it comes to posting pictures, So very thankful for your help in finding the pattern and so helpful watching the video. So after all these years, thinking I was over quilting, starting again right where I left off.

What type of wood? Different woods take different stains...open pore like oak =can take a pigmented stain, sometimes tight grains like maple do better with a gel stain. Sand all surfaces to remove any burnished areas and to get all grain evenly "scratched". Here's a teak butcher block I made a while ago: Is this the color family you're looking for?

I had a similar color scheme in my last kitchen. All white cabinetry with seeded glass uppers. Counters and backsplash were marble slabs. Floor was a very dark coffee stain. I also had an oak butcherblock counter from Ikea that I adored. I didn't stain it because I wanted to use it as a work surface. It held up remarkably well! The cabinets below were painted a color called french pear. Sort of a yellow/green/grey I included a link that has a similar color with butcherblock. There's only one pic that shows the island well so you may have to hunt a bit. As for perimeter counters I always think soapstone or paperstone looks nice with white cabinets. They both have this matte finish to them that makes them absorb light in this lovely soft way so that the difference between the black and white is less stark. If you want something lighter you could always go with a quartz or stone that resembles marfil marble or limestone in a honed finish. (I don't recommend using either on kitchen counters as they're too soft). Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Island with butcherblock and green paint

Check out GWer elizpiz's gorgeous kitchen with its gray-green cabinets and time-worn, comfortable look, Finally - Elizpiz's Finished Kitchen. I think her cab's color looks great with the wood-wrapped windows so I think it would work well with butcher block counters. The painting technique is going to be more labor intensive but it would definitely suit a 100 year old farmhouse. Here's the link to her photo album. Elizpiz's kitchen is still one of my hands-down favorites. I'm so glad the photo links still work! And just because I have a little time on my hands, here are some other kitchens with gray or gray-green cabinets. A few tilt more gray-blue, which I think would also look good with your floor and butcher block counters. Farrow & Ball French Gray on cabinets. Reads a bit minty green on my monitor but that could be because the floor reads taupe (your floor reads taupe-y on my monitor, too.) Is this an oiled finish type of butcher block? if so, then worst case you can sand it lightly with a very fine grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain, and then re oil.

Before that I would try baking soda and lemon juice with a green scrubby. Then leave it sit for 15 minutes or so.

I have oiled butcherblock, and the only thing I have ever had to sand out was Sharpie. I have removed wine, berries, and other food stains with the baking soda and lemon juice, or white vinegar. Also try regular table salt (finer grit than sea salt) with vinegar or lemon juice. Then touch up with oil.

Butcherblocks are made to be used, so this type of thing happens from time to time.

I,m not sure what the finish is on yours so do at your own risk but I used Soft scrub with the bleach in it for blackberry stains . I know it does,t make any sence but it seems like the stains come up out of the wood and after a week or two disappear with the normal daily cleanings.

I think I have the solution.

1. Go to Sally's beauty supply and purchase hair bleach.

2. Purchase the highest developer 20 volume 30 volume 40 volume , 40 volume being the best

3. Mix the 2 ingredients together to for a paste.

4. Spray the area of stain on butcherblock with water, then paint on bleach paste.

5. Place tin foil over the paste and let it sit.

6. Check every 15 minutes to see how it lifts. Keep doing this every hours.

7. If you need lighter the make new formula and repeat.

We do this in the salon when the stylist chairs get color on them. It removes the color stain really well. Dont be afraid to try. Your just trying to lift the dark part....
