Comments (22)Ok gang we have a price... $15,000 for the treasure house and all the goodies. The bad thing is banks won't loan less than $30,000 for a house. So we have to find someone to give us a personal loan. We haven't priced the main house yet. Jimmy wants to keep his gnomes...and that's ok. He really loves them. LOL Cait... yep they both have one bathroom... which makes it hard... most people want at least two these days. They built a little add on to each house for the bath room.. so I don't know how a second one can be done. It will be a little while before we close. Dh and his sis are buying the daughter-in-laws house also for $15,000. All it needs is painting. The sad thing is they are moving the inlaws into the basement. They are going to have it finished with a bedroom, kitchen/living area... but Jimmy loves buying this stuff and there will be no room. He will be heartbroken... Even though they are going to move he still picks things up. It tears me up just thinking about it....See MoreStoneware bowl collections as decor
Comments (31)Thanks Sydney - yes, I've been over in the kitchen section for years... lots of pics of my kitchen have been posted (before and during some reno) - not sure it will ever be finished. It's a very small kitchen. I took down the wall between the kitchen and DR, put in soapstone counters, new sink, painted the cabinets. Still no new floor... someday I'll decide on something. ttodd - I love your house. Thanks for asking. I'll have to take some new LR pictures tomorrow. It's been painted and it quite a bit different than it used to be. It was dark blue, now it's off white.... Here's a bit of a preview I guess. Here are a few pics. I'll try to get some new LR pics tomorrow when it's light. DR Kitchen - as you can see, I'm always changing things... LR - partially painted (during/mid mess) and before...See MoreHow to display large collection of stuff on powder room walls?
Comments (8)In my last home I did my powder room with an English library sort of 'vibe'. The walls were a deep red(Balmoral Red/Ralph Lauren),and I used pictures, small mirrors, corbels, plates, etc. from ceiling to baseboard. All frames were very ornate and were either gold or black/ gold. If you have a standard builders grade mirror, get rid of it or add a heafty frame, which is what I did, or remove the mirror and use a decorative hanging mirror, not necessarily intended for a bathroom. I also hung a small narrow shelf directly in front of 'the loo' which held small vintage books, since I thought it would add to that English library look I was going for. When I put the home on the market to sell, instead of a negative, it was a hit! I did leave the little shelf since the new owner wanted to re-create the look....See MoreDecorating with Collections
Comments (31)I find the pictures at the top of this thread to be "too much" ... I like calm, restful, and these "collections" feel jarring to me. If I didn't like collections or the collected look, I'd have given this thread a wide berth : ) . in my "Death book" (a notebook my husband and I put together for the kids, which contains all our accounts, passwords, paperwork), I specified items that have real value (for example, pieces of jewelry) This is a great idea, Mrs. Pete. Because of time constraints "With a few exceptions, used items aren't worth much; your time is worth more." When I wrote "Because of time constraints", I was referring to the amount of time (90 days, IIRC) we had to empty the apartment, since my parents were tenants rather than owners. The "up side" of this is that we had much less time to clear things out; if they had owned the apartment (and lived closer), the clearing out process likely would have taken much longer. Because of circumstances, it had to happen in a very concentrated burst. Same with the house in the West Indies and the NYC office. Books are one of those things that -- again, exceptions exist -- don't have much actual value. For me, it was important to re-home some of the books to others who would appreciate them. I realize this isn't something that others would necessarily want or be able to do. Though the palm and cactus books my father had collected over decades, most out of print or first editions, were indeed valuable to other palm and cactus enthusiasts, and I had no trouble getting folks from the New York horticultural societies and botanical gardens come to take them away : ) ....See MoreRelated Professionals
