I used to drive by these two houses to take my daughter to school. The front of the houses face a very busy road so I could only slow down soo much!! LOL! DH works for frito lay and delivers to a Super Walmart over the last few years he has become friends with the lady who checks him in..... well it turns out that her inlaws own these two houses!!! and she lives right next door. They all want to move and they want us to buy the three houses as rental properties. They are old two story mill houses. This link will take you to thirty something pics I took. The pretty blue trim house is the one the inlaws live in... the other one is the Treasure house... it is plum full of everything. The pics were taken right before sunset so they are a little dark ...they just don't do it justice. If we buy the Treasure house it comes with all the goodies!!!!

Wow! They're not going to take any of it? Why do they all want to move? They look like great houses, nice & big. What is a mill house? And last question, what are the tools in the very last picture?

I am loving everyone's garden art! What a wonderful thread. Colleen, the sculpture of Seamus is amazing! There are lots of odds and ends decorating my garden. We've got bowling balls scattered about, struts from cars that have been painted, a metal dress form with a clematis growing up it, metal sculptures, a Lyman Whitaker wind sculpture, a gorgeous new bell that we just bought while on vacation, several bottle trees, rusty patio chairs, a rusty donkey sculpture, a cat sculpture, mushrooms, and I'm sure more that I can't recall at this moment. I will take some pictures of some things to add to the thread soon. Thanks to all of you for sharing your photos. I had never thought about mirrors in the garden before, and I really like it!

Whew, I thought it was hot here today but it is only in the high 80's! You guys have got to be melting down south. I was out putting in a tiny lasagna bed next to my shed this afternoon. I totally overdid it with hauling wheelbarrows full of compost. I thought I was going to collapse afterward. Wasn't nearly this bad when I did the big bed in June! Goes to show how the humidity can make things so much worse. Yick! Joan, you aren't lazy! Heck, with that kind of heat even breathing is hard work! Frances, I wish we had some rain to send you but it has finally dried up here. Trina, I am so happy that you are finally getting some good rain. I hope it sticks around. I know it's not in time to save the vegies but at least the perennials may perk back up. Marie, you are certainly not a newbie, you've been around for ages darlin! I have a firm bathroom policy here. If I am in the Potty then do not ask me any questions, don't bother! If I hear "Mom?", I ask "Is the house on fire?, Is anyone bleeding?" The answer is always no. Then I say "Don't bother asking I am IN THE BATHROOM!!!!!" A girl's got to have some privacy! lol!

Hey! I got home from having more blood drawn, and there was my box from Joan on the porch! Paula helped me open it, and it was fun to watch the excitement on her face as she pulled out the shredded paper and saw the goodies Joan sent! Here's what we received... Plants... I find the pictures at the top of this thread to be "too much" ... I like calm, restful, and these "collections" feel jarring to me. If I didn't like collections or the collected look, I'd have given this thread a wide berth : ) . in my "Death book" (a notebook my husband and I put together for the kids, which contains all our accounts, passwords, paperwork), I specified items that have real value (for example, pieces of jewelry) This is a great idea, Mrs. Pete. Because of time constraints "With a few exceptions, used items aren't worth much; your time is worth more." When I wrote "Because of time constraints", I was referring to the amount of time (90 days, IIRC) we had to empty the apartment, since my parents were tenants rather than owners. The "up side" of this is that we had much less time to clear things out; if they had owned the apartment (and lived closer), the clearing out process likely would have taken much longer. Because of circumstances, it had to happen in a very concentrated burst. Same with the house in the West Indies and the NYC office. Books are one of those things that -- again, exceptions exist -- don't have much actual value. For me, it was important to re-home some of the books to others who would appreciate them. I realize this isn't something that others would necessarily want or be able to do. Though the palm and cactus books my father had collected over decades, most out of print or first editions, were indeed valuable to other palm and cactus enthusiasts, and I had no trouble getting folks from the New York horticultural societies and botanical gardens come to take them away : ) .

OMG!!!! I looked at Every pic!!! It truly is a Junker's Heaven!!!! Absolutely EVERYTHING I've ever wanted is there!!! WOW! Pic #18 is Really Wierd, but sheesh! I'm speechless with how awesome that place is! Wow Wow Wow!!!

The houses themselves, although needing some sprucing-up, are great!
But all those treasures! Wow!
So many cute bird houses, a ton of great pots, a lawn jockey, even a trampoline...LOL!
...and is that a stuffed fox I saw? Hahahaha!!!!!

That's one gorgeous Blue Spruce, too!

You've got your work cut out for ya, but what a deal!
Please...keep us updated as you go along...this'll be a fun project for sure.

I, too, looked at all the photos, and I want the stoplight, the 'peacock' chair back, and the glass columns in photo #25, on the table....And that's just for starters. LOL You could probably sell off what you didn't want and make a large payment on the houses.....Grin

Aside from the poor ol' stuffed Fox, this looks like a GJ Dream. I saw sooo much I wanted and am sure I missed a lot more. But have to agree with Kirk on that gnome, he's really wonderful.

Wow! Looks like a lifetime of collecting there. You would have to do allot of work to spruce things up, but wouldn't it be fun to have all that to play with? I had to look at the pics twice, first time I hardly noticed the house for looking at all the treasures! LOL

WOW,what a treasure trove.I covet that set of blue chairs and swing.

I'm sure some of that stuff is worth some good money,like that black statue(jockey?? ) by the front porch.I'm sure that is old and if memory serves me correctly they stopped making things like that many years ago as they weren't politically correct.

I hope you'll keep us informed as to whether you buy it or not,and i'm sure there is a lot more inside the houses.TFS

I knew you all would love it!! I have been away got to be in a friends wedding yesturday. It was alot of fun.. today gotta work then we are going to our friends house and they are going to give us a price. Even though I would love to have the houses....just don't know if we can afford it. They really want us to buy them cause they know I LOVE all the treasures. We shall see. And there's more inside the second house. My eye's couldn't take it all in.
Marti... Everyone in this area worked in the textile mills (until they all moved out of the country!) so Each mill had houses built for the workers and bosses. I think They paid their payments to the mill. I was not born here but I think that's how it was. The two story houses were actully for two families...there were originally two doors. And no inside bathrooms!!!
Gotta go to work!! Darn...........

I just watched the slideshow of what I imagine Heaven to be like! But I may not make it there cuz I'm breaking one of the Commandements but good by coveting my "neighbor's goods" BIG TIME!!! LOL There's just too much that made me drool - but I GOTTA talk about those gnomes!! OMGOSH!!! They are the most GORGEOUS guys I've ever seen!! How much? I mean it... how much? LOL But they must have inside bathrooms now, no? Bright, my prayers are there for you that you can get these houses! Good luck!

Ok gang we have a price... $15,000 for the treasure house and all the goodies. The bad thing is banks won't loan less than $30,000 for a house. So we have to find someone to give us a personal loan. We haven't priced the main house yet.

Jimmy wants to keep his gnomes...and that's ok. He really loves them.

LOL Cait... yep they both have one bathroom... which makes it hard... most people want at least two these days. They built a little add on to each house for the bath room.. so I don't know how a second one can be done. It will be a little while before we close. Dh and his sis are buying the daughter-in-laws house also for $15,000. All it needs is painting.

The sad thing is they are moving the inlaws into the basement. They are going to have it finished with a bedroom, kitchen/living area... but Jimmy loves buying this stuff and there will be no room. He will be heartbroken... Even though they are going to move he still picks things up. It tears me up just thinking about it.

Just $15,000??? OMGosh! Was just watching the news here and the average price of a house in Oz is now $400,000. You'd be hard pressed to find a house that cheap here... I don't think they have any!!

OK, Jimmy can have his gnomes. hehe

I'm glad to hear it has a bathroom. Had me worried for a moment. lol

Good luck with finding the loan. My prayers are there for you. But good things come to good people so I'm sure you'll find a way.
