White cabinets/white countertop? Yay or nay?
Comments (18)We have white cabs, white countertop & backsplash (calacatta marble slab for both) and 2.5+ years later I still love it. LOVE it! We also have white wainscoting in the breakfast nook with a sheer, pale grey-blue paint -- it's a light space all-around. So for us it works and works well. I would definitely second (third, fourth) what was already written about having some slight pattern / movement in your countertop to help hide the inevitable detritus of kitchen life. The swirls in our marble do a really terrific job hiding a multitude of our sins. I am a sucker for a white-on-white (or to borrow from davidro, light-on-light) kitchen. Have fun!!!...See MorePainted paneling in closets - Yay or Nay?
Comments (11)Yes, I was concerned about the buyer popping their head in the closet and thinking, "eew, cheap paneling." The master bed closets will have a nice and very functional organizer for the two 5'x10' closets. They will be filled with our stuff, so I don't think the buyer would see enough of the walls to be concerned (if paneling was a turn off). The upstairs "kid's" bedrooms are those standard sized closets that aren't walk-in, with the sliding doors. We don't have kids and I kept them empty so unless I fill them for the sale, the buyer will get full view of the painted paneling. I'm glad the vote is going in the paint direction because I sure would like to limit what I have to pay others to do!...See MoreOff center lighting, yay/nay?
Comments (0)Hello All, In replacing our dining room light it appears that we're at the mercy of our house design. I think the space was really designed for a round or square table, but ours is rectangle. It seems like no matter the style of fixture it will be off center from the table, about a foot too far to the left. The light that's currently there came with the house and is a chandelier with a link chain that probably helped to center it for the previous homeowner. I'm not crazy about the chain/corded look for the space. Also, moving the placement of the fixture isn't really an option right now. Would this drive everyone else batty, because I think it would get really old, really fast? Any suggestions? I'm currently looking at something along the lines of this for reference: http://www.wayfair.com/Globe-Electric-Company-Vintage-3-Light-Kitchen-Island-Pendant-64845-PIL1161.html Thanks! :)...See Moredecor above piano- yay or nay?
Comments (11)A picture on the wall above - yes. But, on the actual piano then It depends... Do you plan to actually play the piano? If so, you definitely need a piano lamp to make reading music less of a strain. Anything else though I would vote against if you are a serious player. Many decorative items on top of a piano can vibrate with serious use - and in our home that drives my very advanced pianist daughter crazy. The only thing on our piano top is the lamp and what ever sheet music books she wants easy access to as she plays. For me - I never played seriously so it doesn't bother me, but the clutter and dusting around mulitiple frames is more annoying. When I look at some of the sample pictures posted by Mon I cringe and automatically think the piano is not used in those homes, but instead a decorative item....See Moredesignsaavy
