baby boy coming friday - room painted!

Phew! finally had my dear mother come and put some paint on the walls of the baby room/guest room. just in time :)

it's nowhere near being 'finished', 'polished' and decorated, but at least it's something until I can get some other elements for the space. I was thinking about some curtains with a punch of color (blue? red?). Also trying to find a wall hanging stop light or some other traffic signs?

^^^ Hahaha...I once had to buy eggs at the market while my girls were molting, I brought them home and made a point to show the eggs to the girls to remind them what they looked like. Laying started up again shortly thereafter. :) Well...we checked both incubators and candled the eggs we could see into last night. A lot of them were clear, especially the Polish eggs. :( But I don't see my Polish ladies getting much action from my roos, the dumb boys! Other eggs have chicks, but I could not tell if they were alive or not, and how fully formed they are. No peeping or activity yet from any of the eggs, but they aren't due to hatch until beginning at 8PM Saturday night. If none of these hatch, I don't know what to think...I know that both of my roo boys are getting their job done and I don't think they have fertility issues, they are healthy fellas. We did change locations for the incubators this year, to my dining room table, in a corner of a room away from windows and doors to help protect from drafts. I THOUGHT I had a great spot, but if this batch doesn't work I'm going back to putting the darned things in the kitchen. :( On top of everything else, we are having weird weather here since yesterday, supposed to continue until Tuesday--wind, rain/hail, and tornadoes, of all things! If the power goes out, I have my broody hen contingency plan...Bear, Splash and Blue are all broody and would get to sit on the eggs. :) We checked the cam last night and have it all set up and ready to go, if hatching begins we'll fire it up and I'll notify everyone. Time will tell! Velvet !:>

Things change quickly with a baby. I wanted bright and colorful so all these subdued pastels have me ready for a nap. My nursery had nothing on the floor a toddler would want to climb on or pull over to be used to help climb. That shelving with the lamp on top--DANGER DANGER WILL ROGERS. What feeding accouterments? LOL I nursed all mine until they slept through the night. We had a dimmer switch on the overhead light--the only light in the room. At night feedings I could quietly in subdued light nurse and change baby with little or no noise or activity. Baby went right back to sleep.I had a soft sculpture (Noah's ark and several animals velcroed to the wall above baby's changing table. Language learning was important to me so baby and I did a lot of animal noises and descriptions of fur and size etc. They came on and off easily for baby as they grew and needed something to keep them busy. I too would have your chair kiddy corner. I hope it rocks. I second the no time/need for feet up but everyone is different. No cords, on drapes/shades/lamps. Safety first. Love the fun knobs idea for the dresser. I would find a shade and go with a valance. I know they aren't THE THING--but they are safest for baby. Before you blink drapes will be used to pull himself up. Drapery rods pull away fairly easily. Have fun, I so miss those years!!!

Find something of the shade of grey you wanted, and take it to the paint store and ask them to match it. Cool greys can be very unpleasant to live with, look like cement. I got a nice effect once by painting a room dove grey with white trim and a delicate pale birds-egg blue ceiling. Maybe that approach could take advantage of reflected light to give you the effect you want. Good luck!

Best wishes! Nursery are such fun. I would do bigger decals. The ones there now are too small. But, if you want to keep them, I like Is114’s idea of his name, but in letters proportioned to the wall.

How cute is that!! I'll bet your mom loved painting for her grandson-to-be. My little grandson adores his little wooden cars that look like that -- they're his beloved "beep-beeps." Have fun finishing the room and enjoying your new addition!

and thanks also for the compliments, hostagrams. my mom typically does water colors, lots of natural landscapes, but I keep asking her to do all sorts of different things for her grandkids :)

Your mom does great work! It takes ability to make something that simple look sophisticated, and she did it. It's right at his eye level, eye-grabbing, primary colors, full of motion and curve--really perfect for a baby.

Most any Teacher Supply store will have bulletin board packs for transportation and signs should be easy to find.
Many teachers of young children use a behavioral program called "Stop and Think" and it uses a traffic light as a prop. I have even seen 3-D ones made of plastic.

Good luck with your baby. My grandson is now 5 months old, has 2 teeth and thinks he should be able to walk already!
