As far as keeping your ovens and DW, a few questions:

Are you happy with them?
How old are they?
Is there anything missing from them that you might want when getting a new kitchen?

You don't have to do stainless if you don't like it even though that's what most people are going with.

People often worry about resaleability of a home when remodeling. But, unless you have fairly immediate plans on selling the house (within a few years), I would suggest going for what YOU like and want rather than worrying about what someone else might or might not like...you will never get a kitchen that will please everyone and most people will think of the kitchen as their "redo-when-we-can" room rather than looking at a current kitchen as being perfect.

In an ideal world, you would not need to walk around your island to get from your cooktop to your ovens. But, that's exactly how our kitchen will wind up being because of layout options. But, you may be able to avoid it, just depending.

Definitely post some pictures of what you have currently. And post a drawing of your room - there are a bunch of people on here who will be able to help you out a bit.

I wouldn't like having ovens on the other side of my other appliances. Usually I'm cooking at tht stove, the timer goes off on the oven and I just turn, take whatever is in the oven out and resume at the stove. Just picture Thanksgiving. You are boiling water for the mashed taters, cooking some veggies, and it's time to baste the turkey. Are you going to want to make the trek around the island?
Now, the other question is what are the alternative placements? If having your oven near the stove means there is now nowhere to place anything coming out of the oven, then that is a bigger problem than the first, IMO.
As for keeping appliances,I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I refuse to replace until they are beyond repair or repair will cost more than new. Most designs will work with white and/or stainless, so I wouldn't worry about it now. It will give you time to get used to the new layout, etc and then, if an appliance NEEDS replaced, you can decide then if you want stainless or to replace with white, black or whatever. Also gives you time to save up money and allows you to use that money on other items in the budget now.

If it's a budget thing to get the remodel you need, keep the appliances IF they are standard sizes that you can easily replace later. Reuse an existing appliance if it provides you with outstanding utility and you LOVE it and it cannot be replaced with a newer model with more functionality.

But, most of the time, especially if the appliances are of similar ages as the cabinets, old appliances just look old when paired with new cabinets.

IMHO, if the appliances are less than 10 years old, keep them if you like them (plus, you'll save a lot of $$$$) You can find (online) articles that tell the life-span of appliances. I'm ditching the 10 y/o DW when we remodel this year, because its "okay" but could very well die three months after we finish the remodel.

I agree - keep them if you like them and they aren't old. But plan for the future. Are your wall ovens 30"? If not, I'd make sure to leave enough room around them for 30" replacements, because it's harder to find other sizes. Just have fillers screwed in around it (we did this when we kept our 3-yr-old small fridge). DW's are pretty much interchangeable.

Thank you. Yes, the ovens are about 12 years old but fine working shape and the DW is about 3 years old. I hate to spend money on these items when I can use it for something else. I am going to post a new thread regarding what would you do with my space with a few pix.

That you ask at all is the answer. Post the new thread with new questions and this one settled. BTW, if you don't want to walk around the island to the ovens, tell him so and be done with it. He or she may well be pushing in order to see where you push back, anyway.

Once I ran everywhere and actually really appreciated my tiny kitchen. When I built my current kitchen it was for a much slower life. Having something a casual stroll across the kitchen--fine. Not an issue. The only wishes that matter are your own based on your own preferences.

I disagree.

Unless you are putting a wood door in front of your dishwasher I would re-use it. 3 Years is not old. Also they come in a standard size and not a chance that you can't buy one in 5-8 years when yours wears out. And if you are doing white cabs, it will not jump out at you.

The ovens I would replace and build to the new ones' specifications.

I'm rather practical, so I'd be inclined to reuse them if they look pretty new and they were in standard sizes so I could change easily when needed.

Another thing to keep in mind - if you do opt to reuse your current working appliances (particularly the ovens, which are considered "older" in terms of appliance maker standards now), you may want to keep a little reserve of cash...just in case...sometimes the new stuff in the kitchen makes fun of the old stuff and the old stuff decides that it would prefer a different home. ;-)
