Pottery Barn back order came

BUT: UPS brought a package from Pottery Barn, yay! the Alessandra drapes I ordered in September and were on back order until January 28th? Well, I unwrapped it and here it's only one of the 108" panels I ordered. The invoice said to expect a "second package"with the rest of my order - only it will be a 96" panel that I canceled on October 22nd. Ugh.

Called PB and was on hold forever. The guy was confused, finally said he will send UPS back to pick up the package I got and the other I'm expecting. He said I'll have to wait for my order of two 108" panels until January 28th. or I'll get charged double on my credit card.

I asked him why if they had one 108" to send me why they couldn't send me another 108" panel right now instead of at the end of January. And here I thought I got an early Christmas present.

This is one of the main reasons I don't shop Pottery Barn anymore. I had a similar experience with them with wine glasses I ordered for my sister in law as a bridal shower gift.
Here is another example of how irritating the company is: My sister asked me to buy my nephew a set of sheets for his big boy bed for Christmas. I had a coupon code and when I tried to use it it wouldn't go through. I called and they said it was only good at Pottery Barn not Pottery Barn Kids. As if that were not frustrating enough, when I finally got back to my computer to order the sheet, it was suddenly on back order and would not let me order it, it kept the item in my basket. The back order date was Dec 4th and it was Dec 1st. Frustrated, I closed my laptop, and decided to just order the sheets on Saturday. So on Saturday, I go to order the sheets, and they are now available, but for $20 more than what they were when they were backordered. I called customer service, and got no where. Finally threw in the towel and ordered a completely different set from a different company. My sister is disappointed, but I am through with them.

This year has the been the worst year for me when ordering items in catalogs or online and the items are "on back order". I'm wondering if companies don't wait until they see just how many orders they get for an item before they themselves order it from the vendor?

Can't say I've have problems with PB in the past, except when I ordered these drapes. Then it was "oh, they'll be here on so and so" or "they're on back order, oh wait let me check, they are not on back order you'll get them such and such a date". They promised me these drapes in Oct, then Dec., then finally Jan.28. Even sending me a letter in the mail telling me about the Jan. 28th. date and do I still want them?

Hello! I was wondering if anybody has the Pottery Barn Garrett TV Stand and what you think about it? Is it nice quality? Do the doors slide nicely? Is it worth the relatively high PB price? Also, if anybody knows of a similiar stand, that information would be extremely helpful. The only other place I have found anything simliar was on eBay. It was 1/2 the cost of the PB one so we ordered it immediately. However, our first stand came damaged and now the company is unresponsive to our requests for a replacement or a refund. Anywho... thanks so much for any information you can provide.

Patty, that's just nuts! How could one be expected to even assess the condition of the bag (i.e., is it damaged?) without opening the shipping box? I hate to say this, but I think I'd be tempted to damage the freakin' bag myself. Just out of spite. >;-D On a positive note: Last fall I placed an order for something for my brother, it was going to be his Christmas gift. (OK, so it was a pair of "collector's action figurines" from the movie, The Big Lebowski. Not that my brother plays with dolls, but he's a huge fan of that movie.) Anyway, I received an email a few days after I placed my order, advising that the products were on backorder. I waited and waited, and finally received another email, telling me that the products would not ship until February 2008. Uh, no good. I needed them before December 25th. I emailed the company, and they kindly agreed to just cancel my order. In January of this year, I received an unexpected parcel, and lo and behold - it's the Lebowski figurines. $50 worth of Lebowski figurines, to be exact - and I know I had canceled. I immediately contacted the company's customer support department, informed them that there had been a mistake and asked them how they wanted me to handle returning the items (they'd already refunded my credit card for the $50 plus shipping on my original order), and they told me: "So sorry for the confusion. Please just accept the figurines with our compliments and we hope you'll shop with us again." I was completely blown away! Now, I'm not sure when I'll have a need for more "toys" like this, but if I ever do, I'll definitely shop with those guys again. I couldn't believe that they didn't want to inconvenience me so much that they'd just give me $50 in merchandise, but that's exactly what they did. Pretty cool, eh?

I bought the cute PB Reindeer mugs last year for Christmas. We ended up not using them until this year. They were tucked away in my kitchen cabinet in their box until we brought them out this Christmas. I rinsed them out and used Two, one for hot chocolate and one for tea. The person with the tea suddenly had the hot liquid coming out at the base. At first she thought she had spilled it and grabbed a cloth. While this was happening the other person was pouring the hot water into the Chocolate mix in his cup, there was a cracking popping sound and the hot chocolatey liquid spewed out from a very large crack running vertically down the side. In the meantime the hot tea cup was continuously seeping from around the base of the cup but we couldn't see a crack anywhere. After cleaning up the mess and making sure no one suffered any burns, we cleaned out the cups and checked them out. One had an obvious crack that had occurred, while the other one used for tea had no discernibly visible crack. BUT we discovered that when you ran a wet finger around the bottom of the sides of the inside base of the cup , you could feel a hairline crack running almost completely around the inside base circumference. These cups come in a package of 4 and are expensive considering 2 out of 4 cracked when used for hot drinks. We are afraid to use the other two cups for fear of getting burnt. l wanted to read reviews of these cups but cant find ANY reviews on any of their products. This leads me to thinking they purposely don't have anywhere to post them. From a CS perspective this is a very poor optic, doesn't inspire brand loyalty or any desire to continue to purchase their products. Trust and belief in the brand providing quality products is seriously compromised. I also purchased a woven duvet cover that I have to needle in a couple of loose ends that were left sticking out the ”GoodSide” of the cover. Shoddy finishing work with a no care attitude.

I have never had any issues with PB. I sort of had the opposite problem yesterday (OT, sorry). I had ordered a very pretty cashmere sweater from Garnet Hill about two months ago. They told me it was on back order with a December ship date, which was OK with me, so I went ahead and ordered it. And completely forgot about it. The sweater arrived yesterday, just when I was wondering what to wear for Christmas Eve! It's perfect!

So, sometimes back orders can be fun. Not to minimize your frustration...

This doesn't have anything to do with decorating or PB, but it seemed like a good place to vent my frustrations with on-line ordering this year. My in-laws live in NH and when we visit them they always like us to play croquet with them using their old, falling apart croquet set. So I got the bright idea that that would make a wonderful Christmas present. Well about November I begin researching this brilliant gift idea, only to find out that most of the sets in my price range sound as bad new as my in-laws old set. Finally I come upon one set that is made in USA and actually has consistently good reviews. Only it's about 50% more than I wanted to spend. So I get DH to take a look at the specs and the reviews and he concludes that it does sound like it's better than most of the others we've looked at and Christmas is only once a year and go ahead and order it. So I do. And I get an e-mail notification that it will be shipped on Dec. 9. So yesterday, when it still hadn't arrived, I e-mailed the company for an update on the shipping status and an hour later I receive an e-mail back that the item is unavailable and they are canceling my order. WTH? Why didn't they say that a week and a half ago? So I check a couple other on-line retailers that sell it and they are all out-of-stock as well. So my MIL will have a jigsaw puzzle and my FIL will have a box of candy for Christmas because that's all I sent, thinking that I had something really good on the way for them. So now I have to decide whether I should try to explain that I had ordered something and it fell through but I would get it later, or whether I should just keep my mouth shut incase it's been discontinued or something and I'm never able to get it. Fortunately my IL's are not really into Christmas and are likely to think I'm finally taking their advice and simplifying. But still, I feel bad. Sorry hijack the thread, but I really needed to get that out.
