need backsplash ideas to go with costa esmeralda countertops

I have costa esmeralda countertops with painted cabinets (benjamin moore white linen) and need some ideas for the backsplash. I would like tile, but not sure what would look good. I like subway tiles and may go with a plain off-white, but not sure if that is too boring. Anyone have any suggestions or pics of their kitchens to share? Thank you!!!

Too boring... look at a tumbled travertine with some nice metallic rope trim. Maybe a diamond shape piece of costa esmeralda to highlight areas.

i am also getting costa esmerelda granite. i have picked my backsplash tile which is an alabaster basketweave tile with ming green dots. i LOVE it but i am also doing a very small area of backsplash. i will take a pic of the sample when i get home and try to send it over to you. although not very colorful, it has a great texture and i want to keep my kitchen light.....if you want to google it, i think the brand of tile was elon?????? i'll get back to you if you are interested....

If budget was a consideration for the Eco Cosentino Iron Ore, it will probably be a factor with a real blue granite. Besides, if you want your bs to stand out, I'd let it be the one strong blue element in the room. I'd like the Blue Volga or Blue Pearl because the blues in those are subtle and won't shout for attention. If you have the blue granite picked first, I'd want a calm bs. If you try to have too many stars in the room, then it gets noisy. We have Corian in their Rain Cloud pattern and it has a marble like vibe but it also has some small amount of taupe-ish beige. You would have to see if its soft white works with your cab's paint color. Here is a mellow pic of our counters. There is more color to them IRL but from the distance, they do look like a soft white. I am posting pix of this and linking to another one below to give you an idea of the color range to go with your tiles. You could find the equivalent in stone, but we are happy with the Corian. (try to find the seam.. even blown up big it is well done) I could also see a counter with an orange beige tone in it. That would work with the wood look floor and still pair with your cabs and bs. Thanks for your reply and ideas Eastbaymom! Wow, you are so close to having a new kitchen- I bet you are so excited! We just got word that our cabinets will be delivered next week but the contractor who is installing them is backed up so we are looking at the beginning of July for our install. Yes, we are having under cabinet lighting installed. Your idea of moving the fridge is something we have debated over...and over and over. To put the fridge where you are suggesting (where the current pantry is and yes, it is the small white door on the sink run) would mean that the door way into the dining room would need to be moved out. DH didn't like this design either. There has been a lot of compromising with this final decision/layout due to budget and differing ideas. I personally feel like the fridge looks so oversized and obnoxious where it is currently located. Since the cabinets have been ordered, I don't think we will be changing the location of the appliances. I appreciate your idea and actually really like it however it has been vetoed. I'm considering a counter depth fridge when we replace the current one. I have looked at all 3 of your ideas concerning the backsplash. I am considering subways, especially in something light and possibly glass. I think that something larger is a good idea too. My thought is that I should probably determine the counter selection prior to the backsplash although I really like the crackle subway link you included. This is what our cabinets will look like. What are your counter and backsplash selections? Thanks again for the ideas!

Since the beadboard is vertical, I would pick a marble mosaic or glass mosaic and run it vertically, for example: http://www.completetile.com/products/mosaic/mosaic_masterworks/mosiac-masterworks/bead-board-i-complete-tile-collection-0/ which comes in another color, I am pretty sure, or: http://www.completetile.com/products/glass/katami_glass/color-sizes-and-specifications/ or something similar. I also love the idea of using a slab of the same countertop material as the backsplash. It looks elegant and is easier to clean than a tile due to not having a ton of grout lines! But then agin, I think I know all along it's a little too much for my kitchen. Caryscott & petra: Thanks for the picture petra, it says a thousand words. Is spectralight glass tiles? Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. I love the Costa Esmeralda enough to run it up under cabs. Is that an option? So elegant.

I have an exotic granite that I love so I deliberately picked boring (and cheap...it was pricey granite) subway tiles so as not to compete. You could always run a bit of rope trim, pencil tile, or glass tile on the backsplash to liven up the boringness.

Thanks for your comments. gglks - I would love to see your photos. I will take one of mine and get it posted. Our slab just fit our counters, so we have to go with another option for the backsplash. I have alot of movement, which I like, but don't know how to get the backsplash to go without getting too busy. I'm going to google your tile. Thanks again. Laurie

ok....so i can't get pics to you right away but i do have more specifics on the tile....it is elon tile and stone and it is called raised basketweave SM1021 Alabastar with Ming Green. The phone number for elon is 914-941-7800. Maybe you can find a dealer near you or check online. I'll still work on the photos though!!! Gotta find where i put our camera as our kitchen is down to the studs and the house is out of order!!!!!

I would love to see pictures also. I am currently having natural cherry cabinets installed and haven't finalized granite yet but am considering this color.

our countertops aren't scheduled for install until aug. 28th so i can't help you out until then!!! i do remember doing a search on this forum for costa esmerelda and i think i saw a bathroom with cherry to dark cab. with this countertop. try checking that out. also, this stone seems to vary greatly. i have seen it with black veins but the slabs i picked are very neutral in color with white veining. it just depends on what you are looking for.....good luck!

Maybe you mean this one? I used the granite as a backsplash, not tile, which is why I didn't post my picture originally. But I'd think a light green glass mosaic tile would look very pretty.
