you most certainly do have a style that is strongly influenced by at least one period of history, but most likely includes elements from movements such as Arts and Crafts, or Art Nouveau, as well as Gothic, Victorian, and Edwardian fashions.

with the rich furniture and the darkish carpet, if the room lacks natural light, I would make the walls the lightest element in the room - and anything from a 'more' muted gold, to a tint of the rootbeer, to a very soft sage would work, though just about any 'antique' looking neutral would work.

the firewall here won't let me see pics, but I'm thinking that picking up the muted gold or the cream in either the walls or the drapes would be a good idea - definately sheers to start, I tend to like either tonal stripes, or layered sheers (in your case, I would use cream or ecru panels on the inside, and gold panels on the outside of the rod)

not so much a fan of mixing laces (which are hard to find in anything BUT floral motifs any more) with paisleys, but I was a Textiles minor, and no one else seems to notice or care :)

all their colorways are historically accurate, and they give you a great idea of how different colors work together - not to mention their stuff is stunning, if a little too much when its taken all together (particularly the victorians, who loved to layer prints and patterns with mad abandon)

I did notice that most lace seems to be floral. I like floral but didn't think it would work well with the paisley either.

So you're saying sheer panels on inside and outside? I can't picture this. Just plain, sheer panels?

I do like sage green (light!) but didn't want to end with it looking too Christmasy all year round if you know what I mean? The showroom pic on the ashley site has the walls green and it looks nice BUT they have a huge white rug in the middle of the room too that helps break it up.

Oh yeah, on Bradbury and Bradbury! They have an incredible sense of color combinations. Just marvelous. I've been watching them for years.

I've decided I can't pick a rug, draperies or wall color properly until I see my furniture done and all together. I'm waiting for the fabric to come that will cover my fainting couch.

You were able to see the other pics? What did you think of the lamps and flower arrangements? Seriously. Make sure you post pics of your living room too! I love fainting couches.

Sorry, I didn't take a look at the lamps... but have you looked in your local Craigslist lately? You'd be amazed at what you find in there and at bargain prices.

shesharee, for lamps, you might check for a local lamp repair shop in your area. We have one here, and the guy has lots of old lamps for sale, some very arts and crafts and art nouveau-ish (and they're really from that period, not just reproductions made in China!). I never would have thought to shop there. Ebay also has tons of lamps. Even if you don't buy, you can spend hours looking to get ideas.

So I think i'm going to wait awhile for the lamps. We don't even have end tables yet and I want that to coordinate. I always search on ebay for a good deal.
Speaking of ebay. Been checking out curtains. I love the croscill curtains. patriot valance. Not interested in paying the prices in the stores. :) I'm pretty stuck on the valance style. The question is what color. The sage or gold? The sage in the pics appears to be pretty dark. I actually emailed the one person and questioned the color because it almost looks chocolate brown. I was just in JC Penny over the weekend and don't remember the sage to be that dark. Could be different types in the croscill line??

If i did buy solid panels i would probably always have them tied back. something sheer underneath... and guys, i really do like lace. could i use just the valance with light colored lace underneath? I know my furniture is patterened......

Would it look odd to just have the valance and sheer or lace without the panels?
