Downsized and stuck with oak cabinets....

So, we downsized. Sold our very large home to our DD and her hubby, and bought her former home. Which has those typical oak cabinets, with, yes, that little curvy detail on the upper cabinets. Sigh.....

We want to replace the countertop and add a back-splash but I feel like I'm in Wonderland! I love the look of sea-glass...light blue/green countertop, blue/white sea-glass backsplash, but I don't feel that combination would 'go' with the cabinets. Nope. Hubby won't paint them.

It's a small kitchen, one window...I could go black with a black/white or white subway tiled backsplash with perhaps a line of something interesting...

I guess my question is: help!!?

Would sea-glass look more contemporary, or dated? I have visions of apartments with greenish blue countertops that look so cheap.

Gosh, it's been a long time since I've been on here...how could I have been away so long?!

Any help would be absolutely SO welcome!!

I'm just a little sad at having downsized.....Lynn
