Do you really need crown on the rest of the walls? That's the easy way out--just do crown on the cabinets and skip the walls.

Orrr, OK, crazy maybe, you could do a very flat, not really crown but just trim piece on the cabinets and then go with the white crown elsewhere. But I agree you don't want the stained trim all around (unless your home has it everywhere) and you really don't want white crown on your stained cabinets...

Thanks Fori - I like to have crown molding on the rest of the walls...I just think it makes a room look finished when you have crown molding on the 1st floor. The piece around the cabinets, although 2 inches, is not that decorative compared to the rest of the kitchen.

We opted for crown molding around the non-cabinet walls which is over the window and above the entry into the dining room. We also went with the crown around the chimney hood. Very pleased with the look.

I would go with the crown to match the cabs on the cabs and the crown that matches the rest of your house for the rest of the kitchen. It keeps the flow. If the rest of your crown were stained, then stained would be the obvious choice.
