Thanks for the suggestion- they look cute but quite pricey. What we have been doing for years and years is using vinyl bean bags which we get at Walmart/Target/Kmart for about $20 (lately found them for 17.99). They do decompress over time, but the best part is that the vinyl does not retain any odors or dog hair for that matter. whatsoever.
I couldn't decide if your post was spam, so decided to give the benefit of the doubt and offer my real life (better? cheaper?) suggestion.

My 80 lb golden retriever loves a large memory foam bath rug. I have bought mine from JC Penney. They look nice enough to put them out in the living room/kitchen area as well. I have the one in blue to go with my blue bedroom.

sonaliagrawal - what a great idea! I need another set of beds for the home office since I like my pups to hang with me when I'm at my desk. Since they already have nice beds upstairs, something like this would really work well in a smaller space. My pups and I thank you!

homersmom - glad this gave you some ideas! Its funny how I cane around with this solution. So my pup has this thing with any pillows or fluffy dog beds that he likes to think of them as his "girlfriend"... ahem.. if you know what I mean. So I can only use flat things, but I also want him to be comfortable. So a padded soft rug like this works really well for him. And the largest is only $40, jcp has $10 off coupons often, so do check that too.

sonalia-Is that thick and plush enough for a dog? They look so thin. Do you put them on top of something else? I have never felt one, so maybe it is indeed very squishy!

We just got a 40 lb lab mix at the Humane Society about 2 weeks ago and I want her to have a dog bed in a few rooms but I was amazed at how expensive some of them were! And the cheap ones felt, well...cheap!

Spam aside, I have a family member that used to use a crib mattress for a dog bed. She had two large, elderly, arthritic dogs, and found the crib mattress much sturdier and more comfortable than anything actually made for pets. And, things like waterproof sheets, top sheets, etc. were very easy to find. Just my two cents...

Here's the new rescue, Duras, sleeping on a $20 Costco dog bed, very comfortably I may add. He's 100 pounds, and there's a little extra room.

I got two large very nice (and matching) doggie beds at Target. Microsuede beige on one side (for winter), and a subtle sage green cottony print on the other (for summer). My dogs love them. Covers zip off to wash. And there's room to add memory foam if you want. For the memory foam....I have old memory foam pillows that I could slice and put in their beds (human pillows are thick)....OR...I was thinking that one day I'd buy a twin size memory foam on a good sale (usually at Penney's). That's large enough to cut into two for the dog beds, with some left over. Oh, and one of the dog beds I got at Target was on a great sale. When I saw my dogs loved the bed, I went back to get another one, but they weren't on sale anymore.

I would never pay those high prices I see online or in some stores. As for the pet stores, I've seen lately they are coming down in price, I guess to be competitive with the discount stores.

Franksmom - we use crib mattresses too for our elderly labradors and they are awesome. I have bought many, many $$ large dogs beds from Frontgate and LL Bean that my boys have eaten over the years. When I stayed home with my human babies we had no money for new beds, I came across the crib mattresses in the basement and thought - wait a minute, that looks like a great spot for a large dog! I use cute crib sheets from Target that are easy to wash and change out -

I just picked up a great bed at Sams Club--it's 30x40" and my lab fits perfectly on it. I usually just use old comforters that I cut up, but they doesn't provide much padding after awhile. This one is really nice & thick with orthopedic foam inside & a corduroy cover. As I was putting it in my car a lady next to me asked if I had tried it before. I hadn't, but she said she had hers for 6 months & loved it so I was happy. It was around $27, much cheaper than the pet store ones and nicer in my opinion.

Thanks - I ordered the memory foam rugs from Penney's - I love the idea of throwing the whole thing in the washing machine and dryer without having to unstuff it and restuff it later - I bought a couple of the large ones, the smaller ones were sold out. Thanks for the tip. I always forget to check Penney's. The sale price on these was quite good.
