Ideas for peninsula

Hi
We are re doing our kitchen and opening up the wall between our kitchen and dining room.
We are planning on putting a peninsula there for easy seating and prep space.
KD used an easy reach corner cab because we wanted it wide enough for 2 seats facing in. We will already have 2 corner cabs by the stove - 1 with easy reach shelves and 1 with a super susan. So I am wondering about different set up for the peninsula.
Any thoughts?

And here's the side by slider - except microwave cab and other cab will be reversed! Over sink is window.
Cab next to sink for glasses and cups; cutlery and dishes in drawers below (thanks to lurking on this site!!); lots of counter space by sink, also.
There will be a recessed pantry on mudroom wall which will back onto closet in mudroom - MUCH cheaper than pantry cabinets, with everything hidden ( GC is going to bring me a plan of that tomorrow).

We are working on the same idea as yourself. We have decided to go with the counter height all the way through. We will have our sink on the peninsula with some 24" cabinets to the ceiling above. One thing I realized was if we went with a 42" high bar, some goose neck faucets with the handle on the side don't play well with the overhang of the bar. We bought a fixture and installed it on our existing layout that has a small window cut in to the living room and I had to angle the handle rather than having it truly to the side because it would bang on the overhang while trying to get full hot water.

I had a KD who drew a plan, but was also fortunate to have an electrician with a number of years experience to suggest revisions and with code in mind. My space is 13.5 x 33, a combo kit/family room. In the kitchen there are 5" cans about 3' out fr the wall, spaced ~4' apart. I have a 6' island with 2 pendants over that, and a pendant over the table. In addition, over the main sink I have 2) 4" cans, about 1' out fr the wall. I put LED under cab lights everywhere. I put dimmers on the ceiling cans and pendants. Outlets everywhere you can imagine. My opinion is you can't have too many. You never know where you might need one in the future. Code here dictates all in the kitchen must be GFIC. And multiple circuits for using every appliance imaginable at the same time. Even if you think you never will and for appliances I don't own...yet. In the family room, I moved the ceiling cans back to 2' fr the wall, and spaced them further apart, as they are only on when I want a lot of light, and on dimmers. Even with my outlet mindset, I missed putting an outlet where I ended up putting a table & lamp and now have a cord hanging across the floor 5'. grrrrrr. For lights & outlets, my take is that more is better. I don't have to have all the lights on full blast, but I can if I need it. And I don't have to use all the outlets, but can if I want. Now is the time to add them all vs having to pay for another trip later to add an outlet you missed. : (

makmartell has it right. BCC is blind corner cabinet and the width of the unit is given in inches. That is the smallest BCC that I believe you can do. Most are generally 48" - gives you a wider door access - but you don't have room to do a larger one. Given that you have storage for pots and pans, I'd save your money, void the corner (no storage in corner) and do a 17" drawer base between corner and sink. I've no idea what you mean by "BCC 27, 30". I didn't spec a BCC in those sizes. If you're looking at the sink cab and the cab to its right in Plan E, those are cab sizes. Not BCCs, just cabs. If you want to do a U, do my Plan E. It corrects the flaws that we've pointed out in your plan. I feel like a broken record. We've pointed out the flaws with your plans multiple times and you keep going back to them. It's your money, your kitchen so you don't have to listen to our advice but since you asked for help, it seems counterproductive to ignore it. But as I wrote, it's your kitchen, your money, so you're free to do as you wish. More power to you. =) Best of luck with your remodel!

2 more seats are shown than would actually work in that space. You're only going to get 3 seats. I also wouldn't want the tall beast of a refrigerator to be in my face there either. There's no point in taking down a wall when that's in their faces.

What's on the wall to the right? Could you recess a fridge into that wall? It says "pantry" and "mudroom", which would imply that you could recess a fridge there. That would get it out of your face. And if you can add the 9" tray base for your cutting boards, that can get a 4th seat. It will be cozy, but doable. Currently, you've got the corner "double occupied". Only one person can get the corner.

That is a 4 foot spread where the 2 seats are (33inches plus 12inch overhang )isn't that enough? Actually, my drawing doesn't do it justice because there will also be a 4-5" deep half wall between the back of the cab and the edge - 52"). Although I think there is room to expand where you moved the tray cab....
We had originally considered the fridge over there but it felt too far away... Also, we than ended up with a vast unbroken expanse of countertop from corner to edge of peninsula. We thought of putting a shelf on the peninsula side of the fridge cabinet and having a little coffee/espresso area there.....

BTW, how did you edit that drawing?

Oops, just realized the width is 33 plus 5 plus 12 - still 50" across.
Anyone else have ideas?
