because it's a large room, i don't see real well and the alarm clock is small. i prefer to look up from my desk or the bed at a wall clock.

How large does the clock need to be? Do you have a shelf anywhere in your bedroom? or a niche? A good sized mantle clock might be a classic look.

Or a round clock with a metal, pewter or dull silver color, frame for the wall.

Sorry fallingwaters - that kind of skimmed right over your question! Obviously I like having a wall clock in my bedroom, and of course my preference is antique. There are so many options it's hard to know where to begin with a suggestion, but from the sound of your decor, an antique or vintage clock would be right up your alley. There are also reproductions or clocks that just mimic older traditional looks - everything from the real deal to a Walmart quartz. Just depends on what you like but a clock as decoration is a personal choice the same as using mirrors as decoration - some people like the look, some don't.

In the still of the night, some of those decorative clocks make a sound as the needle clicks, make sure yours is returnable, in case it would bother you.
I had to remove mine from my room, I could not sleep with that sound.

Some people do hate the idea of a wall clock in the bedroom because of bad fung shui, but I love mine. It's so much easier to look at the time when it's across from my bed than to lean over the side to look at the alarm clock.

The ticking did bother me a little at first, but now I don't even notice it. If you're a light sleeper it might be something to think about.

I dont think a wall clock in the bedroom is foolish. To each their own. We actually have had wall clocks not in the bedroom but in the master bathroom in most of our homes. It was great when we were getting ready for work in the mornings.

For me, I like the ticking but have a clock with a nice, slow, soft, tick...... a bit slower than my heartbeat is when I begin resting. I find it relaxing at night, and really believe my breathing and heartrate slow in relation to it as I'm falling asleep.

Laurie I don't know what the fung shui aspects are - why are clocks in the bedroom a bad idea? Is it supposed to interfere with relaxation?

dlm2000 - I'm not sure about the exact fung shui details. I just know when I was considering a clock for the bedroom several people told me not to for that reason. I'm not really into fung shui, so I got one anyway :)

Yes, the ticking. I hadn't thought of that, it would keep me awake also. A bit OT, but I have a small digital clock on the nightstand so it makes no noise; however, even a lighted dial bothers me! When my old one finally quit working I got one that has a bar on top to "tap the light on" when you need to see what time it is in the dark. Goes off after 5 seconds.

I see no problem with a wall clock in the bedroom either, esp. if your time is precious and you have to be up and out ready to go in the mornings, every minute counts. Does that have something to do with fung shui?

Heck, we even have clocks in the bathrooms.

i'd be interested in the feng shui aspects too, guess i could do a bit of research. as far as the ticking, that is a great point, though to be honest, we live next to a large waterfall and usually that's all we hear.
i know most people think they'd love that sound of rushing water, but honestly it can keep me up, especially if we've had a lot of rain or snowmelt and it's rushing by furiousely. that sound is a little anxiety producing, though now that i no longer have horses at home it's a little less so. when the horses were here i was always worried about them trying to cross the brook and getting swept away!
back to the clocks, that antigue wall clock is gorgeous, now i have a direction to look--so thanks a bunch!

I think the bedroom is the place I Most need to know exactly what time it is, I don't use an alarm but I do wake up and night and I think looking at the time helps me calibrate somehow so I get up exactly when I need to (which varies).

I have to keep the lighted digital clock out of my line of site when I am lying down at night, I need to sit up anyway, and then have trouble reading it without glasses,so a clock--if it doesn't tick too loudly--could be nice.

I actually solved my issue but charging my cellphone in arms reach and I can use that to see time. Not very decorative.

No need soliciting opinions when you so clearly want, need and like a wall clock in the master bedroom!

I agree the ticking of the clock can be annoying and it is personal choice. I do not see any problem with a clock on the bedroom wall.

One thing I think everyone is missing is that these days we are so dependent on electric power.I have a battery operated clock in the bathroom next to the bedroom and a small one in my bedroom that I can set the alarm on just in case of a power failure. One that looks good is an added bonus.

How would you see the time on a wall clock if it's pitch black in the room at night ? possibly a white background can be seen in semi dark ?

i wasn't asking if i should do it, i was asking for a direction to go in--which i got, so thanks to those who posted pictures and links.
for pitch dark the alarm clock throws the time onto the ceiling, which i love. but during the day it's not visible, hence the desire for a wall clock.

fw, I rented a house in Florida that had that feature on the ceiling, problem is
the first night I could not figure out what the light on the ceiling was,
it's kind of neat. I wish you luck in finding the perfect clock, I'm always amazed at the selection there is. Let us know what you find.

I had not heard of alarm clocks with no light until you hit the bar. That is genius! I am very sensitive to light at night or anytime my eyes are closed. I sleep with a sleep mask and that really helps ;) You can bet when this current alarm clock goes, I'll get the bar kind. Thanks.

I think clocks are as much decorative as functional. Anyone else notice that few people wear watches any more? Cell phones have reduced the need. I think a clock or watch can be quite pretty and functional ;)

My mom had a wall clock in her guest room. The ticking never bothered me when we visited.

dianalo, I got my little battery operated digital clock at Walmart for $7, the one that isn't lit until you press a bar on top.

Could you post a picture of your room? It would be easier to make suggestions. How large is the wall space where you'll be hanging it?

fallingwaters - I have the exact same thing, the alarm clock that shines the time on the ceiling. I use the clock on the wall when I sleep in on the weekends and it's too light in the room to see the time on the ceiling.

I am so blind without my contacts I can't see my clock unless I pick it up and hold it directly in front of my eyes!

"....we live next to a large waterfall" !!! Now that's what I'd love to see: something Ca. suburbanites cannot begin to imagine. I love the pics of 3dogs home with it's "a river runs through it" front lawn. Now here you are with a waterfall! (Horses too, at one time? Sigh!)

As for the clocks: love the ones shown here, and agree it's not a bit odd...whatever you choose. As for feng shui, I'm not a big believer. For example, I think the foot of the bed is not allowed to face the bedroom door. When my bed is dressed in it's prettiest finery I am sorry my room won't allow me to see it front on as I enter the room. Unless there's a beautiful view, the nicely made bed is usually the nicest thing to see in the bedroom.

If you are worried about the noise seiko make some quiet sweep clocks so you dont get the "tick tick tick" so you might look at them. Unfortunately their range is a bit limited with the quiet sweep ones so far which is a shame but you might find one you like
