Diva and Miele Induction cooktops, Gaggenau and Miele Ovens

We are planning to replace our under counter Miele oven and solid plate cooktop.

We want to use an induction cooktop with an under-counter oven. We have a granite counter and a 24" nominal width cooktop, so we can only practically fit a 24" wide replacement induction cooktop. We are looking at a 3 burner Diva DDP3 and a new 3 burner Miele KM5947(supposed to be available in Canada early next year). Any advice on choosing between these two would be appreciated. We don't know the price of the Miele but suspect it may be more expensive than the Diva.

For the oven, we are looking at the straight convection Miele H4682B or the Gaggenau BO250/251. We know that the Gaggenau is more expensive but it does come with a standard 5 year warranty.

We would have liked to consider the Gaggenau steam oven but the complications of providing water supplies and drains in an existing condominium and the fact that it is an under counter installation has discouraged us.

Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen the new Miele 3 element, but their other models have true timers and 17 power levels (hidden in the programmable features), whereas Diva, as of a few months ago, had 9 power levels only, and said they had no plans to have either. Both are high quality products with good reputations for reliability and customer service.

Both Miele and Gaggenau are excellent ovens as well. I'm completely familiar with model numbers, but as I understand it, Miele ovens are known for the system where you choose what you're cooking and the oven figures out the settings. I'd be concerned about the side opening of a Gaggenau oven in an undercounter installation. The obstruction of a drop down door seems like it would, by creating a barrier, be safer, whereas the side swing seems like it would be more easily disregarded and perhaps become a tripping hazard, down where people's legs are. Both are efficient and precise ovens.

Gaggenau are known more for their engineering than customer service. If you have a local Gaggenau service center, they're great. Otherwise, you might have to work harder to get a good response--it's not that you won't, it just might take longer and take more effort on your part. Miele has an excellent customer service reputation, and are especially pleased if you have one of their certified installers do the installation. They give you an extra year of warranty to encourage it.

In other words, you've spec'd excellent units. Choose the features you like the best and I'm sure you'll be very happy with whatever you end up with.

My neighbor looked at the Diva for over-oven mounting. She couldn't afford it, but as I recall the other problem was that it required a very deep cutout clearance, 6" or something. I'd double check that.

lalitha - thank you, that is exactly the kind of thing I want to know. I have to travel by ferry to Vancouver to actually see a Gaggenau. The miele can be seen locally but I don't like the way it looks quite as much. I have tried a few gardenweb searches but didn't have much luck. I'll try again. I will call before I go to Vancouver and see if anyone actually has an operating gaggenau. The promo ends Sunday, so I've got to decide. Have you loved your gaggenau? any complaints? manifestkitchen - I think the promo may just be in Canada. Esentially, it is free 10 year warranty if you buy the base priced appliance. Here we have a funny three tier price system based on the years of warranty. Mind you, the prices are way higher than in the US anyway. Don't know how they get away with that, maybe we are just to polite to complain.

Please help - Wolf versus Miele ovens and induction cooktop

Thank you so much everyone for your great advice. We have been agonizing over this for too long. For the Wolf v. Miele 36 inch induction cooktop, the Miele definitely seems to have more functionality. But it seems maybe Wolf is easier to use with the touch controls versus number touch controls on the Miele? Also, this may be silly, but the Miele in straight black seems to show more fingerprints. Also Wolf now has a new 36 inch transitional induction cooktop with silver rim with what looks like more a charcoal grey surface rather thank straight black (it is black with a lot of dots so looks more grey). I know silly to rely just on aesthetics though but we are having an all white kitchen and the lighter color cooktop would be nice but maybe still really looks dark or maybe can’t even really see the cooktop when in the kitchen and not really in front of it. So there are all those considerations. What do you think? Still go with Miele? Another consideration is qualifying for a package. Whatever we pick for the induction cooktop plus oven qualifies us either for $1000 rebate from Subzero-Wolf (with fridge/freezer) or 10 percent discount off Miele. So if go with Wolf induction, then need 1 Wolf oven. We plan to stack a regular oven with combi steam so that means then Wolf oven and Wolf steam oven but it does seem that Miele has a much better combi steam. Could do the Miele induction cooktop, Miele combi-steam, and Miele oven, but have the issues with the cooktop described above. And from a silly aesthetic perspective, we prefer the Subzero-Wolf professional look, but silly to base appliance selections on look. What do you think? Worth it to go all Miele for ovens and induction? Or is the Wolf sufficient and get the look? Some people really like the M Wolf oven (apparently fixed chipping issues or made easier to replace) but bad not to have convection bake and convection broil? Then E might be better because has both but then lose the Wolf gourmet features and maybe chipping issue. Re Wolf steam some people really like it and a new model looks better but maybe mostly improvements with facade. Go with all Miele? Ok to have Miele contourline clean touch stainless ovens and induction in all white more traditional kitchen (white shaker cabinets and white silestone counters)? And ok to mix with Subzero built-in fridge/freezer and Wolf low profile wall hood? Soo very much appreciate your feedback. Thank you!!!

Oh, right! Writersblock brings up an important point. Generally, for induction over wall oven, you need to use the same brand for both. I'd forgotten. The companies design them so that their own pieces won't interfere with each other, but it doesn't necessarily work crossing brands. It has to do with where which bit of technology is, where the shielding is, and other such arcana.

Does the new Miele unit say it can be mounted over an oven? If so, Miele/Miele is probably your best bet.

I can't help you out with information on Diva's induction other than I tested it in the showroom and it was what sold me on induction. However, I have a Miele KM5773 5-unit induction cooktop mounted over a Miele H4880BP (30") oven and I have no complaints. (well - one small complaint that the oven timer is not very loud even with the 5 different volume settings for it)

Originally, I hadn't considered a Miele oven, but the salesman said we needed the Miele/Miele combination. From my experience, I don't think you can go wrong with Miele, and the 2nd year on the warranty for having it installed by a Miele certified installer is a nice plus (even though I doubt I'll need it). I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Miele oven or induction again.

I've also read good reviews about Gaggenau ovens but I have no personal experience using them.
