We bought a retirement home and tomorrow we are painting the shutters and the front door. Thank God this is only four shutters instead of the 12 we have now! The vinyl siding is a very light yellow. We are painting the shutters semi-gloss black and the front door is going to be Benjamin Moore Red Rock. I don't know how these colors are going to look, but we'll know tomorrow. The front door has a little porch and is "indented" (lack of a better word, LOL). We wanted it to stand out so decided not to paint it black too. Hope we don't regret this, but it's just paint, right? What do you think? Did we go overboard on the red door? Dee

Agree with celerygirl, the garage door should blend with the brick or be the siding color. Notice how your home is more inviting with the garage door painted the siding color and the front door is an accent color? Accenting the garage door draws the focus to the garage which is a utility area and not an area to be featured. Some people do like to add a wood, or wood look, garage door to make the garage area less utilitarian. The front door is where you want the focus - it makes your home welcoming when the front door is lighter and brighter and not a black hole. There are times to have a beautiful black door, but it would in a home where the front door isn't recessed into the porch area. Or if you had the surrounding sidelights and trim area a contrasting color, like white (wouldn't work on your house). No shutters. I think your brick is classic with black and white, as in P Banos' first example. Be sure to paint your downspouts to blend with the brick. ETA - Another thought...this is BM Tarrytown Green that can work nicely with certain brick.

What a charming house!!!! I actually like the dark green (that's what it looks like on my screen). I'd enlarge the shutters so they actually look like they'd fully cover the windows. As for colour, either keep the green or pull a colour from the stone - looks like granite fieldstone so should have lots of options.
