help-my SS cook top won't come clean

Please help-My stainless cook top has discoloration around the ring. The front right burner, which is the one we use the most is the worse one and the others are developing it too. I scrubbed with BBF and it does nothing. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Maybe try spraying Dawn Power Dissolver (gel-spray) on it, and let sit for 15-30 min. We use it on my A-C roasting pan and it does help loosen up (dissolve) much of the baked on grease. Still have to scrub with a blue scrub sponge (with BKF), but it certainly helps.

Have you tried SOS pads? I've used them on a stainless sink, but never a stove. However, on my old white Kenmore, it's the only thing that removes discoloration similar to yours. I'm sure they leave tiny scratches that could be construed as patina, but they're better than discoloration.

Here is a little more information that might help clarify the purpose of the diode across the PTO coil (paraphrased from a Wikipedia article): The functional name given to the diode is a 'snubber'. Snubbers are frequently used in electrical systems with an inductive load (PTO coil) where the sudden interruption of current flow often leads to a sharp rise in voltage across the device creating the interruption (the PTO switch). This sharp rise in voltage is a transient and can damage and lead to failure of the controlling device (PTO switch). When the current flowing is DC, a simple rectifier diode is often employed as a snubber. The snubber diode is wired in parallel with an inductive load (such as the PTO coil). The diode is installed so that it does not conduct under normal conditions. When current to the inductive load (PTO coil) is rapidly interrupted (by the PTO switch), a large voltage spike would be produced in the reverse direction (as the inductor (PTO coil) attempts to keep current flowing in the circuit). This spike is known as an "inductive kick". Placing the snubber diode in inverse parallel with the inductive load (PTO coil) allows the current from the inductor to flow through the diode rather than through the switching element (PTO switch), dissipating the energy stored in the inductive load over the series resistance of the inductor (PTO coil) and the (usually much smaller) resistance of the diode. So, this inductive kick does not feed back into ground or into any other part of the engine such as the starter (as mownie correctly mentioned). The potentially damaging energy is dissipated in the series resistance of the diode and the PTO coil.

I use the razor for the baked on stuff. For a really good cleaning, spray with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar then sprinkle with baking soda. Let it sit for a few minutes, scrub and rinse. I used to use Cerama Bryte until I went green with my cleaners. In my opinion the vinegar/water/baking soda works better and it's a lot cheaper! Don't worry about the vinegar smell, it goes away after it dries.

This is all about "performance" -- range performance, car performance, cooking performance. This is also about status, fantasy and guilt. It also might be about property value. Some very famous cooks didn't have "high performance" equipment. And it's amazing how home cooks in other countries don't have all this fancy equipment and yet manage to turn out delicious meals. I've had wonderful food cooked in a fireplace and on a hot plate. If you can cook, a high performance range makes it easier and can give you more control and eliminate a struggle against a range (which is certainly annoying). If you can't cook well, and don't learn to season, no appliance will help.

Flour makes gravy thick. Cooling gravy gets very thick too. However, what has been said is that floured gravy that is cooked at a high heat for a long period of time will eventually lose its thickness. The key is that the floured gravy is cooked at a high heat for a long time. Something happens that results in a breakdown of the flour's ability to keep the gravy thick. If you normally don't heat your gravy at a high heat for extended periods of time, you would never encounter this situation. It's similar to the idea that browned flour, such as is used for making a traditional dark roux, doesn't have the thickening power of a lighter colored roux. So boiling a thin, floured gravy may not result in a thicker gravy. Not unless it is boiled enough to actually reduce the liquid quite a bit. "Sauces thickened with starches should be reheated carefully, as they will lose some thickening ability if reheated to a full boil."

I cooked pancakes in an All-Clad SS pan once. The oil adherred to the sides just like what you've got. It took a lot of scrubbing with BKF on a damp paper towel, but it finally came off.

My son has done a major number on my all-clad skillets making egg and bacon breakfast sandwiches. They're all covered with baked on grease.
Although I have used SOS on them, it's still a mighty tough process to get it off.

Wondering if oven cleaner might do the trick on them? Assuming one could get the chemicals off really well afterwards with a hot, soapy wash?

Go to Family Dollar and buy a one dollar bottle of their Awesome cleaner.
I used it when we were refurbishing our Chambers stove and it removed 60 years of grease and goonk with no problem. I remember cleaning up a house I was selling... I sprayed this on the back wall behind the stove and watched the grease liquify and literally run down the wall. It is the only chemical cleaner I will consider any more.

The other thing that works really, really well and is non-toxic is Thieves oil cleaner by Young living. And no, I don't sell it but I should, lol.

Not sure if you can use on your cooktop - but I tried a sample of Bar Keepers friend on some SS pans that had wierd spots and magic!

Others - ???

Sixty - can't have your beautiful kitchen besmirched by that grime!

I've learned to use SS spray cleaner (DH bought; I prefer Weiman's SS Wipes) to create a puddle on the stains and put a Weiman's SS Wipe on top of that. Let it sit for awhile (don't let it dry) and carefully scrub with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser (like cam349 said) in the direction of the grain.

Simple ammonia, miracle cloth or sometimes, an old tooth brush. Rinse well.
