One of my favorite yellow's is SW Ivorie. It's not a bright yellow, instead it's a soft creamy yellow/gold. It has an LRV of 65 so it's light but will still give you color. The color on the strip will look brown ugly gold which is nothing like the real color once on the walls. I recall my reaction when our decorator recommended it and I was like, no way! We then put it on the wall and I loved it so much we used the color in the next house we bought. We also painted our kitchen SW Blonde which is the next color up on the strip and it's also beautiful but is a bit darker (LRV 54).

Thank you both. My first thought was a green, and then I thought maybe a beige/gold. I kind of like the idea of doing green. It's less "safe" than a beige/gold but maybe more interesting? I have a BM color wheel home. I've painted a few sample boards. Saybrook Sage is not right at all in there--too much blue. I had painted Nantucket Grey. I like the intensity (not too dark, not too light) but wonder if it's a little too grey. Great Barrington looks pretty, but I'm not sure I'm brae enough to go that dark. What about Louisburg Green? Here's a close up of the rug. It's not quite as pink IRL. For other changes in the room, I'd like to take the "grate" off the large break front. It might make it look less heavy. Also, I'd love to change or paint the chandelier. Thoughts on that?

Thanks for the replies so far! Just to clear things up - The "Den" is also going to be an office - we need two. The idea of making the dining room into an office is about function over form, and actually using the space instead of wasting it. We've had guests over 0 times in the last 15 years. We've owned 6 homes in those years (including the one we are in now) with formal dining rooms and not used the dining table once. There is just us two - Our family lives 3000 miles away - and we are busy professionals - in retirement we will be at our country club for food/entertaining.. As is - we eat in the family room 99% of the time and only use our nook table for holidays... The large counter in this build would replace functionality of the nook table. The patio/pool area will have an extension with a fully screened in cage, and be a gathering space with tables/chairs - though where we live, it's miserable to be outside 8 months out of the year - so it's never used. That's our life - it's not even close to the same for everyone - which is why we wanted to make the conversion temporary - so it can be converted back for resale.

I wanted to say that’s amazing! I agree with not painting the wood. Maybe strip it and do a light white wash or natural finish. Idk. I am not a designer just a lady who enjoys this site. Does it have lighting in the top cabinets? If not try adding lights and using them.
